Most played song on my local Texas Country station last week..
It's a good song to listen to whilst driving I suppose.
You don't have to have a technically good voice to sing country and have a big hit do you?...more a lived in voice.
Country is lyrics based, at least much of it. Currently, the mainstream pop country stuff still relies on singers that you would hear on American Idol and the like.
But a lot of country, blues, folk and the like require a message or a good story..
Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and especially say Kris Kristopherson would never even qualify for American Idol..
The last time Nashville was more into the pop sound (60s) they basically told Willie he needed to just keep writing songs and give up on singing.
He came home to Texas and started his own brand and never looked back..
This is Kris's song (same as Bobby MsGee), but no one is going to ever call him a great vocalist.
He's a singer songwriter..
Not so great a singer, but gorgeous to look at in his prime, that never hurts.
I appreciate Dylan now I am older, and Willie is a one-off.
I really appreciate great singing though...and there is no doubt that Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga have the perfect blend of harmonies when they sing together.....I am a bit obsessed with that song at the moment.

Kris was an Army Ranger and a Rhodes Scholar. His roommate in the UK was Al Gore..
He was working as a janitor when he "borrowed" a National guard helicopter and landed it on Cash's yard with a demo tape in his hand.
