 It won't grow on me.

It's an abomination of the genre.

It's like comparing Taylor Swift to Stevie Ray Vaughn..

 I like what I like..

I'll agree that I don't like a lot of music. But then, a lot of folks don't like what I like..

I distinctly remember when Chris Stapleton won his first CMA award 2015 at almost 40. He had finally had some commercial success (including writing a hit for Adele). But the Nashville scene kept overlooking him as a performer. All of the other artists knew him because they were getting hits singing his songs, and they knew he could sing..

I was following the local "country" music page for the mainstream stuff that night. People were livid that this nobody they had never heard of, who wasn't a young male in tight jeans singing to a hip hop beat with a banjo had beat everyone else. He got virtually no radio play on the major stations.

I had been listening to him for years, and like all of the artists that sang his music, knew how talented he was.

To this day, many artists that are on independent labels, that actually out perform mainstream artists in terms of streaming downloads still don't ever get played on major stations

I think that sorta sucks.

I suppose it's easier now for an unknown to become known via self-promotion, YouTube's and similar.

Back in the day so many talented people never got a look in.
Even now, organisations like the BBC play some tracks to death...A Bar Song, being an example, they have similar playlists on all their stations, it's a form of brain washing.

Artists like Jack Savoretti, who writes and sings all his own stuff, just get pushed out from the mainstream.

Exactly. You have to follow the formula for the system.

You sell your soul, sing what the record executives tell you to sing, or you don't get the airplay.

You sing what they think appeals to the largest audience. Popular doesn't always mean talented.

Shaoboozy or whatever his name is, is the latest example. When Taylor was "Country" she was another. Taylor was never a country singer though. She's always been a pop singer. They just threw a banjo in her early stuff and released it as country.

In Texas we have created our own market that plays what is called Texas Country, Red Dirt or even more broadly, Americana which includes country, folk, blues, roots rock, rockabilly..

We have out own awards now..

Americana had their awards last week. The talent on that stage was far better than anything on the CMA's.

Taylor Swift may have started out with some big producer thinking she sounded good country, but she soon found her own feet, and look at her now.
She re-released all her old records and produced them herself, the way that she wanted them to be done....a very clever young lady.

I always think that cringeworthy moment the idiot Kayne West rushed the stage, took the award off her when she was a teenager, and said Beyonce should have it, gave Taylor the added determination that got her where she is now.

Revenge is sweet.

Taylor had some family money too.

Taylor sang country because it had become filled with pop singers trying to get exposure. It was a smart move..

She is very talented and smart. She seems to be a great human. I'm just not interested in her music, or most music that sounds like it..

I like her songs, and I like her style too.
But I do think her lyrics are often very depressing, considering they are aimed at very impressionable young minds.

She can sing, but so can Shaboozy, and so can many other artists who dare to encroach into the country western style.

Is it because he wasn't born to a poor chicken farmer in the hills of Tennessee, wasn't particularly influenced by other dyed in the wool C&W singers, definitely isn't white with a catch in his voice and a southern drawl, or is it because he has been successful in other genres of music and now seems to be jumping on the country bandwagon,...with quite a good song, actually. wink

Most pop country has a hip hop beat and a sound designed to appeal to large groups of people that like pop music..

Also, while people like Charley have a great deal of success, they are unknown to the mainstream fans of country because the Nashville machine won't play their music.

Here's another good example. This song won an Emmy for the best song in a motion picture.

Nothing from Nashville.  No plays on the mainstream radio, no nominations.

Ryan does have other songs being used in TV shows and of course he gets played on the stations that focus on independent artists..

This is getting loads of plays here. I have to say, the singer doesn't look like anything I imagined he would.

Posty is a famous rapper from Texas. Amd yeah, he looks like one..

Many of us have seen him grab his guitar and sing country on podcasts or interviews. He grew up listening to the genre.

His new album is doing well over here too. It fits in that pop-country crossover style that's so popular..
