OK...I just read up on it, apparently it was a bit too 'Latino' for some, and Trump (of all people) didn't approve of the gyrating dancers, considering them unsuitable for a family audience.
What a puritan that man is. lol

I clicked...I enjoyed what I saw. I skimmed through some because it was so long. Lady Gaga was brilliant as usual.

I'm glad Benito's message resonated with you.

Could you direct your super powers towards something useful like lottery numbers?

 No, I don't encourage gambling.ragga

I have no idea who he is and what his message was...I just liked his energy and the fact he had Lada GaGa on with him.happy

Why did half of America not enjoy his show?

I would say because like you, they had no idea who he was or what he was saying..

I had never heard of him, but unlike 50% of your fellow countrymen, I did actually do a bit of research, (as I said in my post above) so I now do get what his message is.wink

I think most people don't want to work that hard to figure out the super bowl performer.

Bring out someone they know, so they can sing along to some songs.

You know like Prince, U2, Sir Paul............

I know you Americans treat your sports venues and the people who perform in them with reverence.
I still remember the career dive Roseanne Barr took when she screamed rather than sang the National Anthem at some sports stadium.

That was about the national anthem.

The super bowl halftime show is a global event.  It's why Bad Bunny was chosen. He's huge globally.  Still doesn't mean that a lot of Americans are interested.

She made fun of your National Anthem, but then she is a comedienne not a singer, what did people expect?

I don't think Bad Bunny is huge here...I had never heard of him.
I have no interest in American sport, but as you mentioned it on here, saying half of America didn't enjoy the show this guy put on....I was curious to see why.

How many Spanish speakers do you have there?

And the super bowl is a global event. That's why they had someone who would appeal to people that dont watch American football.

But they irritated half the country picking someone who sings rap in Spanish. The folks watching in Colombia were no doubt pleased.

He was singing more than speaking, and Lady Gaga sang in English. Maybe the 50% of Americans who didn't like it should be more accepting of minorities.

Did you like it?

The vast majority of half time performers have been minorities. Several have been Hispanic. Nobody complained except those that wanted their favorite artist or a certain genre played..They always exist..

I think part of the problem is he mentioned Trump and Trump fired back.

That means huge numbers of people now feel obligated to either support him or attack his music inorder to make it, like everything anymore, political.

Just like you did by suggesting people didn't like him because of his ethnicity.

Personally, I loathe rap music and singing it in Spanish isn't going to make me like it..

Did he not honour Americans enough by making his set more Latino than Americanised....I think that was the problem.

Maybe if he had worn chaps and a cowboy hat he would have gone down better.

Beats me. I have no idea what he said. Nor do you.

There hasn't been a country singer perform at the super bowl in decades. But there has been every minority under the sun.

All in English.

I think that's what bothered some of the folks. We are a country of immigrants who historically have tried to melt together under a common language.

That, and like you and most of the players in the game, they had no idea who he was..

You said he was 'huge globally'....yet me, and it seems half of Americans, either had no idea who he was, or didn't like him because he was too Latino.

I don't think you have to know the words of a song to like it...I thought his music was pretty lively, I enjoyed most of it even though I had no idea what he was saying....same with Ricky Martin.

He is huge globally. You forget how much of the world speaks Spanish. I'm also betting far more than half of America had no idea who he was until it was announced he was singing.  He would have been an excellent choice for the Olympics..

Being Latino isn't the problem.  Gloria Estefan and Shakira did the Super Bowl.  They are huge here..

And don't think you can really like a song if you don't understand the language. You might like the beat or the melody.

On the bright side, he is doing two shows in the UK this summer. Both in London. Grab two tickets, swing by and get Magica and sing along to his greatest hits.

Eleanor Rigby
Picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been
Lives in a dream
Waits at the window
Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door
Who is it for?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

-----------------------------------------

I thought I had already forgotten you, heh
But they played the song, heh, heh, heh
That we sang very drunk
That we danced very drunk
We kissed each other very drunk
I thought I had already forgotten you, heh
But they played the song, heh, heh, heh
That we sang very drunk
That we danced very drunk
We kissed each other very drunk
I thought I had already forgotten you

Both versus were written by someone who played the Super Bowl halftime show. Only one of them has any talent at writing songs.

Lennon and McCartney music will outlive all of us.
Oddly enough All the lonely people, was played on the radio this morning, first time I have heard it in years.
