I thought he was sentenced to murder.  This seems to be some sort of technicality - breaching someones rights while making an arrest.

 You have to serve more of your sentence for federal crimes. 

 

I'm not sure if the sentences run concurrently. 

 

If not, he could be sent back to state prison after serving most of the 20 in federal prison.

OK I checked. They run concurrently.

He will likely be in prison a couple of years longer anyway.

He got 22.5 on the state charge and 20 on the federal charge.

The Fed's will make you do 90-100% of your sentence. Many states will let you out in a little over half, if you behave.

I think it's concurrently, so he'll be about 66 when he gets out.
