The 4x200 men's Freestyle were simply awesome last night.

The rowing has been a bit of a disaster though especially in the Men's Coxless Four when our long, long Olympic dominance finally ended.

Yes more misery for the British rowers - a total disaster compared to the last five or six Olympics.

Apparently this is a lot do do with the departure of the greatest coach in rowing history Yurgen Grobler after almost 30 years in charge.

Why he was allowed to leave is a total mystery but from what I have read it seems the bosses want to part of a more soft and 'inclusive' sort of culture in GB sport (this also applies to our cyclists who have not exactly set the world on fire at these games yet either).

Surely to be a success at Olympic level the coaching has to be really tough and some home truths be told when things are going tits up (such as almost crashing into the poor Italians which may have cost them a silver)?

The Coxless Four sniping at double gold medalist James Cracknell does them no credit either - they have no one to blame but themselves.

I might be wrong and a really harsh of course but it does seem strange that our total world domination at both sports in recent decades has taken a huge nosedive just at the time of this change in attitude.

Let's hope the indoor cyclists turn things around - the great Laura (4 Olympic golds) and Jason Kenny (6 Olympic golds) in particular.

The BMX was spectacular viewing - and the scenes where Silver medalist Kye carried Beth as she was so exhausted from the effort of winning gold were wonderful and really heartwarming. happy

The less said about the rowers the better though.

I only just realised the legend of BMX Mariana Pajon who Beth had just beat in the race comes up behind her at 2.40 and gives her all the praise from behind - what a sportsperson and what a true champion.

So many could learn from her. I had no idea who she was but will now look at all her previous Olympic triumphs on YouTube -  sheer class.happy

Charlotte Worthington makes an incredible comeback in the Freestyle after falling in the first round to destroy the nailed on favourite Hannah Roberts in the second!

The tricks she did were mindboggling!

I am beginning to like BMX! happy

Max was brilliant as well - sadly I don't think we will win a gold medal in the athletics (or any medal for that matter) Dina was our best chance for gold in the 200m and Katharine Johnson Thompson has been injured as well.

I never though we would do as well as the last three Olympics (4th, 3rd, 2nd) but as long as we stay around where we are we have done very well - the Athletics and in particular the failure of Rowing team mean we were never going to finish higher.

But I might be wrong and we might get a few medals in Athletics, Zharnel blew his golden chance last night though.

The 100m was wide open following Bolt's retirement (he won the last three of course).

Track Cycling and Boxing finals should be good fingers crossed.

Two 18 year old 'women' from Namibia running in the women's 200m who have moved down a week ago due to testosterone regulations.

Not allowed to run in distances over 200m but still allowed to run 200 - so an 18 year old who has moved down has just slaughtered the 2nd fastest woman of all time (and the real world record holder if you don't count old Flo- Steroid-Joyner) after an appalling start in the heats.

Not suspicious at all - 'she' must be a once in a lifetime talent.

Or not.

Sonny Liston was more effeminate.

But the militant Trans Lobby are orgasming (not a pretty thought).

Perhaps Dina dodged a bullet?

It's not fair.

Elaine Thompson is now the double world record holder (forget Flo Drug's 'records' because she took so many steroids she caked her face in make up to hide the stubble and paid the price with an early death) - and double Olympic champion at 100 and 200m.

I love SAFP but credit where credit is due.

As for young Keeley and and the legendary Kennys just well done.

Oh and Karsten is the new Bolt in his event (400m Hurdles) and such a nice bloke.

Legend.

I might be accused of being a bit mean spirited but I am sick of Biles being held up as a US hero. She was not in form at all and then suddenly made her mental health an issue when she was losing.

Coincidence?

Nope.

I saw the routine she performed on beam today....she won bronze.

Not sure about the mental health thing, it takes guts to withdraw after years of training.

Nothing to say about the Olympics?

You read through the entire thread just to have a pop,

Anyway after today's Sailing, Equestrian and Boxing heroics we are now 4th in the table behind the Japan, the US and China - a huge shame about KJT but I expected it.

Little Sky was great - a Bronze just past her 13th birthday! happy

My comment was about your pronouncement that Simone was faking her mental health problems. Looks to me like you are trying to dodge that by bloviating about the rest of the games. When did you qualify as a Dr of Psychiatry?

She probably is genuine but someone who calls herself the GOAT (which is why she has goats stitched into her leotard) should really still try and compete even if she is not at her very best.

The definition of the greatest of all time in their particular sport are people who come through adversity, Ali, Bolt, The Don etc.

Anyway she got a bronze which is more than you or I ever will.
