So....after Christmas meal out, Christmas and Boxing day gatherings, all ruined by Covid, we rearranged for a buffet here on Saturday, New Years Day.cheer3

Got a phonecall this morning (I am beginning to dread house calls) grandsons mum, who had so far seemed immune to catching it, has tested positive after starting with a really odd throat infection yesterday.

New Year festivities are also cancelled now.

Roll on 2022.bored

Not this year that's for sure.

For everyone who thinks Covid is nothing more than a bad cold or a light flu....out of the six close family members who have caught Covid in the last 2 weeks, two are still feeling really ill.

Grandsons mum has never felt this bad in her life, she can't even get out of bed today. The two in their early 20's who caught this over a week ago now, still feel ill, out of breath and coughing,  the youngest one is worse than the older one...all are normally physically fit.

Son and partner  have no sense of taste or smell, still coughing and feeling run down.

Thankfully none have needed hospital treatment, but I found out yesterday  a cousin (I haven't seen for ages) was in the ICU recently with Covid.

I have a buddy that caught it right before Christmas and spent Christmas alone..

I told him the silver lining is that you probably have this thing behind you now.

Same goes for your family. Their current condition sucks, but it's how this thing ends. Massive numbers of infections that make people sick for a week, in most cases.

Hoping this wave is the biggest and consequently the last.

Your poor mate....being ill AND alone at Christmas is horrible.

That's what I have said to everyone, at least now you have had it, which in one way is better than not having had it and constantly dreading getting it.

We went out on Monday...hardly anywhere was open and everywhere was so quiet, I really think people are once more scared of getting out.

The US hit a new record in daily infections yesterday.

Couldn't tell though.

I think my part of the world has just decided to stand it's ground, look the bitch in the eye and tell it to give us its best shot.

I'm sitting in a restaurant right now that is full of people without a care.

Even Biden seems to have changed his tune. He realizes this isn't something he can defeat and has basically turned it over to us to deal with it the best we can.

It's gone on too long now to be hiding away.
In my opinion I think being boosted, wearing a mask in enclosed spaces, and not getting up close and personal to people outside your own circle....is the best I can do if we want to live life with any kind of worth.

I am not ready to travel abroad, though I am desperately missing my holidays. I doubt whether England will follow the rest of GB and go for a lockdown in the new year, but I will be seeing my family as soon as they are well, come what may.

A 6th wave has now descended on my part of the world too - despite our almost 90% vaxxed stats.

Omicron seems to be a game-changer, but it’s another variant we just have to ride out like we did with Delta (& hope for the best!)

All good wishes for your family, Syl.

 Thanks Vam.

There seems to be no end to it, a 6th wave! I have lost count of the 'waves' now....a huge rise in hospital admissions is predicted for the new year though.

Thousands are predicted to be headed to Manchester tomorrow from Scotland and Wales, to take advantage of our clubs and pubs staying open, theirs are all closed again.

Cant wait. bored
