American restaurant chain, Hooters, may open other venues in the NW if England, they already have one in Nottingham. There is some controversy, as the Hooters girls 'uniform' is very revealing, short shorts, low-cut tight tops. In the US the shorts have now been replaced with a thong.

Is this empowering young women...they will make good tips, the wage will be higher than average bar/waiting staff, and obviously, only very good looking young women will get hired.

Or, is this yet another way to demean women, plunging them back in time to the page three and bunny girl era, where a womans body not her brain was the most important thing about her?

Haven't been to a Hooters in years. The girls were always young fit and beautiful. Very friendly and pleasant to look at. I dated one for a couple of weeks. Lovely girl who worked there while at college. She made thousands a week from tips. She didn't feel demeaned but actually enjoyed working there. It was her choice she knew the uniform she had to wear and chose to work there.

It's no different to seeing a young girl on a beach in a bikini on spring break or during the summer. Women with a good body generally like to show it off. It's how the world turns.

Most bars hire good looking men/women unless it's some back street shit hole like you'd find in Torquay

Hooters has pretty much run its course over here.

They used to far more selective about who worked there. With discrimination laws and attitudes it's hard to do that anymore.

The outfits are no more revealing than anything you would see at a club on Saturday night.

The wings are better than average too.

There was one in Manchester some years ago, just off Deansgate on Peter Street.  I know because I was the resident dancer at the Middle Eastern restaurant on the same block.   I remember guys queuing up round the corner to get in.  The girls wore tee shirts and shorts.   Each Friday and Sat night, I'd leave the restaurant to walk to my car and the place would be full of mooing blokes and flashing lights.  It always made me smile coz they all seemed to be having a great time.   Hooters lol  So sexist!

I read the other day, and you probably know if this is true or not, the orange hot pants the girls wore had been replaced by a far skimpier pair of black thonged pants...and some girls were not happy, they felt too exposed.

I didn't know there had already been one in Manchester.

There is a bit of a hoohah about the planned one coming to Salford.

Do you remember the Playboy club in Manchester? it closed in the 1980's....I was working in town at that time and was asked to be a bunny, buteven back then I thought the costumes were horrendously demeaning.

However the girls who were bunnies (I knew a couple of them) were very well protected. It was quite classy there, a well run casino and a nice restaurant and cabaret room, there were no mooing or flashing blokes) loland no one dare touch or insult the girls.

I hope the girls who work at Hooters are as well protected.

Screenshot_20220424-113525_Google.jpgThey back tracked.  When Hooters first opened, it was considered a place for guys to hang out. But eventually it just became a wings restaurant that the whole family went to..

The novelty wore off and no one cared..

Nobody protected me.  I had a few moments when I worked as a dancer with blokes.   Ugh.  One guy followed me out of the restaurant screaming how much he loved me.  I ran all the way to my car but he caught up with me and I had to beat him off with my sequinned dance stick.  Fuck knows what that looked like.    Shame I didn't have my sword with me.  I used to dance with one.  It was real too.   I doubt I'd be allowed to use it these days.

Have you not noticed that not ALL the threads in Whine cater to petty, moaning,  buggers like yourself?

So...I'm sure you can find a place to stick your cigar. ragga
