It's the same here...AND our petrol is double the price of yours.
There are so many people here who cannot afford to eat and heat...many people are skipping meals already, and come the Autumn, when the weather gets colder and the energy prices rise again, God knows what will happen.
Gas/elec prices have increased drastically...food bills have gone up a third in the last few weeks, every single person I speak to, whether comfortably off or not, is worried, cutting down, shopping less and at budget stores, it's like you say....something is about to explode, people are living on a knife edge.

Our governments locked everything down. Then my central bank printed 6 trillion dollars, and yours nearly a trillion. They loaned that monopoly money to our governments and bought debt from banks to pump them full of this newly created cash.
If you create a bunch of something out of thin air, you devalue it.
Our money is devalued so it buys less.
This process is called quantitative easing. It was developed by the Japanese a little over 20 years ago.
It's never been used on this scale in our countries, or globally. We're in uncharted territory here.
There were people like me, and people who are also well respected economists (not me) screaming to high heaven a year ago that this printing needed to stop.
But the politicians were having so much fun handing out money to show how much they cared, that they ignored the warnings.
Many councils here have invested in cycle lanes... Problem is no one uses them. It makes for gridlocked traffic in many areas, because the roads have been narrowed to accommodate these lanes. Cyclists are a bloody nuisance when they 'own the road' whilst ignoring the specially designed cycle lanes.

Cycling lanes are fine, if your by yourself and they keep them clean of debris.
But for group rides we take the lane.
Now usually, when I lead, I take roads that are easier and safer.
Doesn't do me any good to be legal and dead at the same time.
Last night had a family get together...including grandson, who works away now so I dont get to see him much.
Ate and drank very well (knackered today) a big hit was home made sangria, and as for some reason everyone seems to buy me port for Christmas and birthdays....it served two purposes.

I haven't had sangria in a long time even though it's very popular around here.

Or at least it used to be.
I like it on holiday, Spain, Italy and the like, after a hot day, just languishing in a nice bar with a jug of the stuff....it always tastes better than when sat at home in the cold.
Though mine was very nice last night I must admit.
I think the company always helps though, no matter what or where you are drinking.
Sometimes it's just hard for 2 people to live together, no matter how much they may care deep down..they like them a lot better when they split.
The important thing is, especially when kids are involved, you don't end up hating each other....sadly, I know a couple of couples who can't/won't get over the hate. It's self destructive.
