Sheila O'Leary, 39, was convicted of a jury in Cape Coral, Florida, on Tuesday after a week-long trial. 

She is now facing life behind bars and will be sentenced on July 25. Her son Ezra died in 2019 from complications caused by malnutrition. 

Doctors found he hadn't been fed for a week by the time he died in September 2019. 

Sheila and her husband, who has also been charged with murder and is waiting trial, called 911 after Ezra stopped breathing. 

The couple also had a three-year-old and a five-year-old who were severely malnourished. 

Their skin was yellow and one suffered such poor dental hygiene that their teeth were black. 

Police believe it is down to the fact the girl visited her father in a different state regularly, and was given a proper diet there. 

The three children were fed a diet that consisted mostly of mangoes, bananas, avocados and rambutans. 

It's unclear if they ever saw a doctor. Ezra was born at home and had never been to a physician. 

According to police, on the day he died, the toddler had been nursing when he started struggling to breathe. 

Instead of calling for help, his parents say they went to sleep. By the time they woke up, he had stopped breathing entirely.

Weirdos. I'm fine with being a vegan, but Jesus you should be able to tell you're not doing something right and your kids look like death.

I don't know what to do with people like this.

I'd have to see some serious remorse and admission of stupidity to not throw the book at them.

Idiot woman. It's like people who give their dogs vegan food. Dogs need meat. I'm a veggie and have never imposed this on my kids, grandkids or dogs!

When I clicked on the link it took me to a page in an online news publication with the following blurb and headline:

With the "Vegan mother" story it is difficult to make a judgement without further info, however this seems to be a case of neglect.  From what you posted the neglect was the fault of the mother and the "husband".   There is also the father of her daughter and one wonders why he never sounded any alarm bells.  If she was found guilty of murder that means she intended to kill the child (mens rea)?  Finding the article there is a picture of the mother with what looks like three daughters that look healthy.  It mentions she is the mother of four so this must have been taken maybe before Ezra was born (said to have been 18 months when he died) [mother of four: three with current husband and one older daughter].  All this seems to indicate mother and husband changed the way they approached things after the photograph had been taken.  It was reported that 18 month year old Ezra was fed raw vegetables, fruits and breast milk.

Vegan and raw vegan are entirely different things.    

 

I don't agree with veganism for children but papers need to stop pushing raw vegans as vegans.  

 

This fella ( who I don't like )  has done a video series on raw vegans, I don't think he ever mentions they are raw vegan, so also misleading people.
