Has died at the age of 82.

He was in one of my favourite films of all time and one I watched again recently and still thoroughly enjoyed it!!

One of the best actors of his generation nod Word is, he was a lovely guy IRL too - took on all sorts of charitable causes, but always under the radar with no cameras flashing.

 Hi Vam.

That's the best way.

There's a woman (famous Scottish Businesswoman) who gives a fortune to charity but never makes a fuss or wants publicity.

i only know about it because she shares a friend with my mum's cousin.

I've read the book.  She cuts off one of his feet with an axe, and then one of this thumbs.  This doesn't happen in the movie.

Is the book better than the film?

Despite reading  loads, I've only read one Stephen King book.

Funnily enough my mum is on book two of the Bill Hodges trilogy just now.

I have read several Stephen King books. Several times while reading them I wonder what goes on in his mind.

It's one thing to make a movie that sort of shows what he was describing.

It's another to actually read what he is describing in vivid detail.

I don't watch many horror type movies. Really no movies at all lately.  But a good book from a lunatic can keep me interested well into the evening..

I can read a good book in a day, get up at 11:30 or whatever to let the dog out and then sit and read for hours.

Nothing like  a good book.

The creepiest one I read was by Mo Hayder, good grief!!

Someone was murdering women then passing them on to someone else after he had finished with them and to give the impression they were still alive, he was removing their hearts and putting a bird inside.

I gave it away when I was finished reading it, I thought I'll never read that again.

🙁

I like horror or psychological thrillers (both film or books)

I loved Jeff Lindsays 'Dexter' books...tracked down all eight of them. The TV series was good, but not a patch on the books imo.
Chris Carter is a good story teller...he can be quite macabre.

I prefer a book over a Kindle anytime.

I thought that film was memorable for the acting - and Kathy Bates won an Oscar for it.  Normally if there is something squeamish about to happen I close my eyes or switch to focus on technical aspects knowing full well that no actor was harmed in the making of the film.  Normally a book is better than the film adaptation but here I think the film stands on its own merit.

Kindle every time… tons of books to download in the click of a button, to take anywhere on something not much bigger than my phone! happy

All King's books are better than the movies.  Very scary.   The only movie that adapted really well was Carrie and the Green Mile.

Carrie was a great film, seen at the cinema, so the ending came as a surprise, the whole audience screamed. lol

I couldn't watch The Green Mile after that innocent black man was executed! Was horrible, especially saying he was afraid of the dark as they put a hood over his head. This happened to.many blacks in America, point the finger, they were executed. So unfair.

Funnily enough i was reading about a case in my crime magazine yesterday about a black man that was jailed for life without parole for a murder he hadn't committed. Tons of evidence that it wasn't him. He was finally freed after 34 years. People said it's a good example of why the Death Penalty is flawed and should be abolished.

Kash Register was his name, i was annoyed at his mother over that too.

I'm mean the poor man has had a terrible life.
