Dry air does that. If it gets cloudy and rainy here, we don't see the extremes either..

Also, clouds hold in heat. That's why clear nights can be so cold here.

The clear winter days, blue sky, frost glistening, may look pretty....but I prefer the rainy, dull cloudy days when the temp rises a bit.

I just cannot stand the cold. Today it's 6c...a bit warmer than the last few days.

Flipping heck, it was tropical temps last week where you are.

At least we are consistent...at the moment miserable, cold  and damp all the time.

 Welcome to Texas winters.

People lived here 100 years ago and had no idea when the temps would drop 50 degrees F and stay there for a few days.

If you had shelter, you could survive.  If you were out in the middle of nowhere, traveling on horseback, you might not.

It can't be healthy to have such sudden highs and lows in temperatures.

The body has no time to adapt to the extremes.

 Makes you tough.

Think of the Russians and their saunas in the middle of winter..

Tough conditions certainly make for tougher folk.

I am from the north of England, where men are tough and women are glad of it, or even tougher.....well maybe not so much nowadays.

Central heating and air con have softened people up.

Still below freezing with shit falling from the sky.

North Texas is basically closed. Almost nothing is open.

I've got 4wd so it doesn't bother me much at all. And I've never hesitated driving on ice, so I'm pretty good at it.

Already let my nurse friends know that I'll get them to work, or home from work if they don't want to drive.

Taking one to work later this afternoon. Last night trucks were stuck on the highways because of the ice. Without the proper vehicle and some skill, these roads are almost impassable. But nurses and others still need to get to the hospital.

Unfortunately, this nurse is a lesbian. Last storm I picked up a very attractive hetero nurse that I know. She had been stuck there for like 36 hours and just wanted to get home..

 Agreed.

I sorta believe in karma. Help everyone and you will get some sort of reward anyway.

Even if it's just someone being appreciative.

Winter isn't over yet.
So far today, we have had bright sun, hailstones as big as golf balls, (I thought the windows were going to smash) sleet, snow, and back to sunshine.
Presently it's 4c...tonight, set to drop down to -5.

Some of the camellias are flowering, the big red flowers set against the white of the snow look beautiful. If it gets much colder they will all die.

What a difference a couple of days make.
The local Starbucks has an outside sitting area, we had coffee and cake in the SUNSHINE. happy
It was brilliant, a taste of the nice weather to come, hopefully.
