Just abandon all sensibilities and you won't be bothered.
Phew...he had no intention of letting himself be robbed did he?
He would possibly be done for using excessive force, or something similar, here.
We don't have to let people steal here.
It's often a better idea, but we don't have to..
And Asians (what you would call orientals,, I think), don't mess around if you try to take their stuff.
The "Rooftop Koreans" proved that shit during the LA riots.
The shop owner was probably acting on instinct, and he has every right to protect himself and his property.
But....maybe he went a bit too far, he had obviously overpowered the kid after he had stabbed him a couple of times...is saving a few trinkets worth killing a kid, who was cowed on the floor pleading for his life?

Depends if you think that kid will pull out a gun.
It's always a judgment call when you are stopping someone with force.
How much is necessary, in the heat of the moment, is hard to determine. Especially if they are still up and on their feet.
The general thought is to attack until the threat is neutralized, and hope you can make that call properly.

I hope the thieving little scroat survived without too much injury, I doubt he will be trying that again.
Here, that would be deemed as too much force, especially when the threat did seem to be over, but then, we don't live in a gun society, which probably slants the way we view these things.

You don't, but that kid could have had a knife.
As long as he's on his feet, he could pull it and stab you back. One has to assume that someone engaging in robbery like that is also capable of extreme violence. Until he's neutralized he's a threat.
He reacted weird. He didn't drop, and he didn't run. At least until the stabbing was over..
He couldn't run ...the shop owner had his arm round his neck.
I do admire the way the owner acted in defending his hard earned property...and of course himself.
I just think it seemed a little extreme, but it's easy to be a judge when you are not in the heat of the situation.
