The University of Florida pulled a scholarship offer it gave to one of the nation’s top quarterback recruits after a video of him using the N-word while singing along to lyrics in a rap song surfaced.

Top QB recruit loses scholarship after posting video saying N-word in rap song https://news4sanantonio.com/news/nation-world/top-qb-recruit-loses-scholarship-after-posting-video-saying-n-word-in-rap-song

Been a great deal of debate about this over here.

White kids are still the biggest consumer of rap music. They buy it, download it and attend the concerts.

If you're a consumer of this music, should you be punished for singing the lyrics as written?

Maybe it's time everyone stops saying that word.  🤷‍♂️

No it's over reacting.

The blame would lie with the song writers, artists and producers of the sort of music that include the N word, the MF words, and lots of other demeaning words, usually aimed at women.

But then it's a slippery road heading towards curtailing people's right to free speech.

Rap singers call themselves ni.gga, in songs and blacks say it to each other.

Thought it was a banned word, seems only if your white. I've got black friends, i wouldn't call them that anyway.

He/they still have a right to say it, at least over here.

But people can choose to disassociate with you.

The problem is, that people under about 40 or so, have heard that word (ending in A usually) in their music since they were kids.

It's often used in everyday speech in certain circles, regardless of ethnicity. But it still will land you in trouble o

if other groups hear it being used, unless you are black. And even that is a difficult word at times to define.

Wouldn't white people going to a mass meeting place where people on a stage shout/ sing N****R be called racist?

Either that word is stopped being used or everyone can use it.

Nobody owns words, they can't take it back. Especially when they calling each other it when whites were too.

It's all bollocks, I don't use the word simply because I find the word offensive no matter the color of the skin on the person using it.

White people can end up in court if they use the word here, it's considered to be racially abusive.

A bit like straight people were told it was unacceptable to refer to gays as queers....yet it was OK for gays to use it.

It was used by them so often, it's no longer seen as an insult nowadays.

Language has a funny way of evolving.

We used to have a cat called N*****. Imagine nowadays standing on the front step shouting for it to come in. lol

Back then the word was associated more with a colour., as a child it would never have crossed my mind that it was used as an offensive term for a person.

Now they sing songs about your cat, except you can't sing them. Only pay to see people perform them..
