 If the sovereign is a woman !old out queen, her husband cannot be King, as this would put him above her.  Marry a king, the woman automatically becomes queen, as her right. Our queen wanted her known as queen consort, but they are dropping the consort.

Camilla only wanted to be princess consort.  And she also never wanted to  be known as the Princess of Wales out of respect for Diana.   This is why she's known as the Duchess of Cornwall.

The difference between a queen consort and a queen is that a queen consort does not have the same political power. The queen consort is not a ruler in her own right, unlike the Queen, and her monarchical title only comes from her husband.  So technically, she is queen consort, but can be referred to as Queen Camilla or her Majesty, just like the queen mother and Queen Mary.  Both were queen consorts.

 Diana and Charles were not really together for decades though were they.    The marriage was on the rocks long before that and Diana was shagging more men you could shake a hat at.  They were married in 1982 and by 1986 they were both having affairs.  The woman is dead and gone.   Are Charles and Camilla supposed to suffer over this for the rest of their lives?
