The Coronation...

The Stone of Destiny is leaving Scotland for England for the Coronation next week.

It's the first time in twenty-five years it's left Edinburgh Castle.

The Stone is an ancient symbol of Scotland's Monarchy  and was stolen by King Edward I in the 13th Century and taken to Westminster Abbey.

It remained in England for 700 years and formed part of the Coronation Chair on which Kings and Queens were crowned.

It was returned to Scotland in 1996 on the condition we sent it down for any future Coronation ceremony.

Edward I "The Hammer of the Scots" nicked it and took it down south where it stayed for 700 years.

Four students took it back in 1950 in a Christmas raid and sneaked it back into Scotland.

For the first time in more than 400 years the Scottish/English border was closed as they tried to fine it.

It finally turned up in Arbroath under a Scottish Flag and was taken back to England.

Here it is leaving us yesterday 

(It's now in two bits because the students who stole it didn't realise how heavy it was and dropped it!!)

The public are being invited to take part in the Coronation by swearing allegiance to the King on Saturday.

 "I swear that I will pay true allegiance to your Majesty and to you heirs and successors according to law.

So help me God"

It's hoped millions of people around the world will take part.

I've only ever sworn allegiance to the Monarch once and that was when I joined the Brownies!!

There will be female clergy next week and religious leaders from other faiths but Charles will make the traditional oath of promising to maintain "The Protestant Reformed Religion"

 I've bought a tee -shirt for the Coronation!!

It's got a King Charles Spaniel on it wearing a crown.

If I do take the knee, it'll only be because my new(ish) hip replacement gives way. ragga

It's been mentioned over here in the news, but it's not really a big deal. I think most American royal watchers are females that want to watch females become princess or queens.

King Chuck ain't really getting their magical fantasies worked up.

I have my Tee-Shirt, Shorty has her Union Jack bow-tie and we will have our pieces and drinks off Union Jack plates and napkins.
