It's going to bankrupt them.

 He told them going down to see the wreckage of the Titanic was safer than crossing the road.

It's all very morbid though, the Titanic should be left alone not gawped at.

The whole venture was folly. I'm not getting the "They were pioneers of research' bit. That's bollocks. They went down there for the thrill of it.

 They were told by others, but the owner said it was safe, so the believed him, sadly.
