Apparently, on some building sites this is still common practice. Women who have to pass a Salford building site are complaining bitterly about all the remarks they have to endure as they pass.
"A woman who walks past a building site to get to work has said she is being sexually harassed on a regular basis and now has "high levels of anxiety".
She is one of more than 10 who told a councillor they had experienced lewd jeers or gestures from some Legacie workers on Ordsall Lane in Salford.
A nearby flat resident said she had to "hide behind the sofa" to try to stop a worker taking photos as he stared in.
Legacie Developments said it would take action over inappropriate behaviour.
Liberal Democrats Councillor Alex Warren has been looking into reports of sexual harassment linked to the Legacie construction site on Ordsall Lane for over a year.
He said he had been "flooded with messages".
Alison* told BBC Radio Manchester she had been "wolf-whistled, honked at and [they] shout sexual remarks at me".
She said site workers "made comments about my appearance" and remarked they wanted to "bend me over".

There'll come a time in their lives when these women suddenly become invisible. Make the most of it, I say. Enjoy that you turn heads. It won't last.
I dont agree....I hated being shouted after. Being leered at and sexually propositioned when a women just want to go about her business is insulting not flattering.
And as for having some dickhead actually taking photos through the glass window when a woman was in her own home, he should be locked up.

I always liked a wink.. Subtle, and far more classy than a 'Get your tits out luv'.
When I was working in a club, I once called for a cab, this lad came in, nice face, longish black hair, denim bell bottoms, he was the cabbie...he caught my eye and winked, I thought 'cocky git', but I liked him.
We celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary next year.

So it all started with a wink (< him) … and a nod (< you) … and on you go!
Aww…that’s lovely
(I’ve been seeing some utter crap online today - I needed something to smile at)

Agreed.
If you're actually trying to score, being subtle works better then being obnoxious.
Besides, here in Texas, it's still considered poor taste to be obnoxious to a woman.
Those that do, generally are just trying to offend ot intimidate the woman because they know she's out of their league.
There's a good video of a woman in NYC that actually takes guys up on their offer and it baffles the fuck out of them. I'll see if I can find it..

Thank you Mags and Vam.
We all have our own love stories dont we? everyones is special to them.
A lot of Yankees have tasted a little blood in their mouth.
We may be knuckle dragging reprobates down here, but women generally approve of this backwards mentality. 👏
Is that you Maddog??
I've never actually been to South Carolina, at least that I remember.
I have gone off on douche bags before though, but it's rarely necessary because it's just so strange for grown men to be that obnoxious to a woman in public.
Since the me too movement it's even less acceptable..
Now, Texan men can be a abusive and controlling to their partners, especially in private, but that's different than being a shit head to women you don't know walking down the street.
There's a new TV channel called THATS TV. It's showing reruns of It Ain't Half Hot, Mum, Benny Hill and Til Death Do Us Part. Uncut. With a small warning at the beginning.

Brilliant. I must look to see if I get that.
I loved Benny Hill back in the day, he was always the butt of the jokes, as was Alf Garnett.....programmes like that, that nowadays are seen as incredibly un pc, were in fact anti-sexist and anti-racist when you think about it.
