Apparently that dreadful stunt Brand and Ross pulled on Andrew Sachs was given the go ahead by the BBC.
Of course it was .... was embraced and considered clever .... condoned ....
When I think about it - it must have been, given it was done as part of BBC radio broadcasting. Every stunt must be considered and given permission by BBC managers. That is why we need an independent assessment of the BBC's past. In thirty years time we will need another assessment of what the BBC is doing now.
The advantage of the media is that they can always create a narrative where they are in the right. "We did the right thing, or it was a rotten egg, or lessons have been learnt ...."
"The Metropolitan Police is investigating a number of allegations of sexual offences following claims made against comedian Russell Brand in Channel 4’s Dispatches documentary.
The force said it had received “a number of allegations of sexual assault in London”. Brand has denied the allegations.
In a statement the force said: “Following an investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times, the Met has received a number of allegations of sexual offences in London.
“We have also received a number of allegations of sexual offences committed elsewhere in the country and will investigate these.
“The offences are all non-recent. Officers will be offering specialist support to all of the women who have made allegations.”
The investigation is being carried out by detectives in the Met’s Central Specialist Crime Command, led by Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy.
Supt Furphy said: “We continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a sexual offence, no matter how long ago it was, to contact us.
“We understand it can feel like a difficult step to take and I want to reassure that we have a team of specialist officers available to advise and support.”

I agree.
It was getting a bit tiresome when people were complaining about him to everyone but the police.
Now they have had the courage to make it official, and the police are investigating.

Let's hope they are investigating thoroughly now.
Why do I think you will say they did a great job if they press charges, but a terrible one if they don't?

I've never really liked this guy but I have to respect he aint going down without a fight.
Four years of investigating and nothing... a few accusations and nothing more.
Police have had a look not been interested.
Now forced into being interested and not because anything new came up.
The whole thing stinks.
It's not yet illegal to be a sleazebag.
Here he is still standing still punching.
Well worth not just watching but thinking about...

Yes but they have been receiving this stuff for four years!
They haven't felt the need to investigate much further year after year but now there's an onslaught... not by new alleged victims or new evidence but by a sudden onslaught from....
The media have been investigating him, the police were not involved till recently.
Without investigative journalism, a lot of criminals would not face justice.
Maybe Brand will welcome police involvment. If he is charged and it's gets to court, he will have the opportunity to clear his name in court, rather than on Rumble.

I don't think people are supposed to want to go to court to clear their name.
I sure wouldn't. The mere accusation ruins your name. You can't unring some of these bells.
I guarantee you, millions will always think Russell is guilty no matter what happens in court.
That's why it's an abuse of power to accuse people of something and drag them into court to prove their innocence..

Well worth not just watching but thinking about...
Are you one of his 'Awakening Wonders' joining him on his shouty voyage to truth and freedom?
PS I can understand why you are all for free speech without censorship given that most of what you write on these forums is pretty much tosh that doesn't stand up to critical analysis.
..... Without investigative journalism, a lot of criminals would not face justice.
Not to be too cynical but some believe investigative journalism is long dead and has been replaced with narrative pushing and targeting. Look how Julian Assange and Seymour Hersh have been treated - one imprisoned and another ignored. Tommy Robinson tried to bring to light the rape gangs but was attacked for being racist etc. Who else do we have to thank for raising awareness of large number of girls being prey to sexual abuse gangs in the north of England.

Whether a persons alleged crimes have been splashed all over the news or not, if the police have taken the accusations seriously enough to open an investigation, surely a court where justice is seen to be done, is the best outcome.
Incidentally....as things stand at the moment, what do you think is the way forwards?

Plenty of investigations end without charges. The police are obligated to listen to folks, not rubber stamp all accusations and let them go to court.
At this point the cops are doing what they are supposed to do. Brand is presumed innocent and should be as the investigation continues. If he he is charged, then, he should be treated differently, and of course if he is convicted, punished.

Seems many have gone right to punishment..
If the aim was to destroy him I think they've achieved their goal without as much as a summons being writ.

Alternatively, if he has raped and sexually abused women in the past, he has had many years of freedom, whilst the women have had many years of trying to live with the trauma of being sexually violated.
