Some just get bored and move on to other things, some just go.

I know we hear, through the grapevine, that some have died, but with others we have no way of knowing.

I can think of a few who  post prolifically for years, then just disappear.

Tytonidae, (Ty) is one, Major Starbold, Melfi. a couple from other forums...here today, gone tomorrow, and mostly missed.

Two of them are grotesque, as you know, and they haven't disappeared have they, so let's concentrate on the posters who have.

I always got on with Fluffy, I do realise she was an acquired taste, but she was picked on unfairly imo.
Wherever she is, I hope she is happy.

I know nothing of the sort.  YOU may consider them grotesque, but I do not.

You asked a question and I’ve answered it - you’re not the opinion police.

She was.  And her biggest bully was the owner of this forum.  Closely followed by Twizzler.  Jealousy brings out some a nasty streak in some women unfortunately.  You were always kind, and for that I thank you.

You have obviously been around for years, and yet you hide behind false names and different proxies, which actually makes your opinions pretty worthless in my view.

If you had the guts to post in your known user name, people may be bothered to respond more.

Also, you only seem to pop up if you can find an opening to cause trouble....a pity, cos at least you were good at the quiz.wink

It seems to me that many of these types of websites are fading away because of a lack of renewal.   At lot of these websites were created when large broadcasting & media organisations started closing their own online forums and individuals responded by creating mirror sites with some of the online chat communities migrating to them.  However because these sites had no direct pull (no media or broadcast pull) these migrated online communities dwindled for lack of new members.   An example is the BBC used to have an online Sports Forum called 606 and when the BBC closed that down there were a number of mirror sites created.  That was about ten years ago.   Since then those mirror sites have twinkled out of existence or dwindled to small numbers due to lack of renewal of the community.

From what I understand Slumbering Canines and this site were set up when certain news chat forums were shut down that were linked to large broadcast & news media organizations.

A good number of posters left what was probably the biggest forum of this kind around in 2007/8 (thereabouts)
It was The Mirror forum. That closed, and the posters spread around a couple of ongoing forums, or joined the one Micky opened....and Micky's, and of course Dogs, did very well out of that.

More forums popped up a few years later, like this one, most of those forums are no longer here now....disinterest is the main reason.

I do wonder what some of those posters are doing now. Over the years, 16 in my case, there have been some real characters that have come and gone.

Fenella is another one I miss, strong-minded and interesting... we could do with a few more like that now.

Dogs regularly has 70 or 80 guests imagine if just half of them joined!

I miss seeing Fen around too. Her stubborn doggedness and acid ‘That don’t impress me much’ attitude used to crack me up - even when we used to ruck with each other. I really hope she’s doing OK.

There’s loads of folks I miss seeing around actually. Although I’ve largely moved on to different online places, I still browse much more than I post. And after almost 10 years in this corner of the www, I guess I still mostly lurk hoping to maybe see some of the names I like appear again! nod

It's years since she logged in. As far as I know she doesn't post on Dogs now either, and she was a long time poster there.

She did drop off the earth. Her and I were talking quite a bit about Covid over on Dogs, and then she just disappeared. CJ was driving her nuts over there, but that wouldn't explain her absence here too..

Hope she's OK. Seems like she had some minor health issues, but I could be misremembering. 😉

You or somebody banned my normal IP a week or so ago, so I’m forced to use proxies since then.  If you want to ban someone, ban the bloody username like most people.

Not this lunchtime mind as we were in country pub having lunch, so it was their IP

so think again ……

If I remember rghtly, she stopped posting on here because JO trailed round after her,  but even after he was banned for a while, she never posted.

I think maybe Fen, a bit like myself, once she leaves a place she seldom goes back....she was the same on NF,

I did go back there after a year or so, she never did.

 Lexis nose dropped off.

Lola met a bloke from Cornwall last I heard...hopefully she settled down happily.

June was lovely, after Micky I think she did meet someone nice.

I checked on the forum Major posted on...the last post was Christmas 21, he had been in hospital, I really hope he is OK.

No idea what happened to Truthy or BD, BD was not a well man even back then.

 Oooops, too late.

But It would be a huge coincidence if the patrons of the country pub posted here, don't you think?
