Xmas eve I was cooking all day for everyone till three in the xmas morning! Xmas day delivering it all and slicing meat then relaxing a little. Today (Boxing Day) off to a friends who lives partially off grid to have a lovely beef stew and dumplings and plenty of alcohol just six hours of talking and laughing... wonderful.

One good thing about getting old, you find the time to talk to people, really talk.
I think many younger people are too busy with living life, earning money, and in today's world worrying and stressing about things the older generation didn't have to deal with, and those hours long conversations with partners or friends, just didn't seem to happen as much.
One exception for me is my grandson, we just connect, have done since his birth, and we spend ages discussing anything and everything.
He will be getting engaged next year to his childhood sweetheart, it's their 10th anniversary together. I am gifting him my own engagement ring to give to her, it makes me very nostalgic to do this.

What a lovely thing to do Syl. My nan wanted me to have hers, she gave it to me on my 21st. I still have it.
It just seems right. I can't wear my engagement ring anymore, my fingers are fatter now than when I was in my 20's...and I never bothered to get it resized, it's been unworn for ages. I asked OH a while ago, he thinks it's a good idea, so it'll be lovely to see someone else we love wear the ring.
Like Mags treasures her nans ring, I think this one will be treasured too.

It's a nice gesture but first make sure it's what they both want

I talked it over with him on Christmas day, showed him the ring, he was very happy. It will be resized (if needed) and professionally cleaned beforehand.
His girlfriend won't know till he gives it to her.

some girls would be thrilled but others might see it as a second hand ring that he’s not chosen himself
this is their engagement, don’t be tempted to make it about your and his relationship and upstage the girl, bit of a minefield here really
I don't recall asking for advice, so IF you mean well, Thanks but I don't need it....IF you are just a snidy get trying to act like a twat....you have succeeded.

I never heard Kate complain when she was given Diana's ring.

Good point well made Magica.
Kate had to do as she was told.
She could've said no, then Megaliar would have got it. Gods preserve us!
