Waste of time and wrong.   You can't get more data than already exists.   If all one has is a painting then that is all one has. All one ends up doing is reimagining the past.  Next they will be "using AI" to produce photo quality images of humans from Charlie Brown cartoons.

AI-version-of-Jesus.png

"In a groundbreaking development, artificial intelligence (AI) has harnessed the enigmatic power of the Turin Shroud to provide an unprecedented representation of what Jesus Christ could have looked like. The centuries-old mystery surrounding the shroud, believed by some to have wrapped the body of Jesus after his crucifixion, has been revisited with the help of cutting-edge AI technology tool Midjourney.

This AI-driven breakthrough offers a lifelike portrayal of Jesus, depicting a man with flowing hair, a beard, open eyes, and a portion of his body visible. While it’s important to note that this image is a contemporary interpretation generated by a modern device, the results are nothing short of astonishing."

If the AI image is close, it seems casting directors were genius when they cast Robert Powell to play Jesus of Nazareth back in the 70's.

Some historians say. that given the times and the place where he was born, rather than the traditional image of Jesus that the bible has always promoted, he would more probably looked like this.

I don't think the Bible says much if anything at all about how JC looked that's down to theologians and artists.
It changes over the centuries to be in line with the days fashions and trends.

 Odd snippets, this is interesting.

However, modern day images of him do appear in various bibles. I have even bought a bible in a shop selling religious articles in Bethlehem,  and even in that, right next door to his birthplace,  Jesus is portrayed as looking more European light skinned, tall and slim.

They've made a face of Jesus from the Shroud. I'm impressed tbh.

Carbon dating of the fabric (linen) of the Turin Shroud revealed it to be medieval in origin.

"The Holy See permitted radiocarbon dating on portions of a swatch taken from a corner of the shroud. Independent tests in 1988 at the University of Oxford, the University of Arizona, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology concluded with 95% confidence that the shroud material dated to 1260–1390 AD."

AI is just a tool but underneath it is programming and assumptions.   It is very easy to fool people by saying "AI shows .... "

I remember a couple of years ago, JD posted an AI animated picture of Mona Lisa.
The painting, which apparently looks small and underwhelming in real life, shows an ordinary woman with a pretty dour face (imo)
Animated, she looked completely different, even pretty.

I think Da Vinci must have caught her on a bad day. wink
