  1. "Chancellor Jeremy Hunt begins his statement by saying that, since the Conservatives took office in 2010, unemployment has halved, and absolute poverty has gone down."

What do the Cons call 'absolute poverty'?

From what I hear, see and read...the average working class person is worse off thanks to energy prices, food hikes, council rates etc soaring, especially over the last 2 or 3 years, so God knows who is better off (apart from the rich) since they came into power.

Unemployment may be down, working full-time in a reliable fair paid job is probably down too. Next he will be telling us that NHS services are up since 2010.

Governments are a dab hand at manipulating facts and figures to suit their own purpose.

Tricky stuff on his part. He hasn't mentioned 'relative poverty.'

Definitions below (from habitatfromhumanity.org.uk)

Absolute poverty is when household income is below a certain level. This makes it impossible for the person or family to meet basic needs of life including food, shelter, safe drinking water, education, healthcare, etc.

In this state of poverty, even if the country is growing economically it has no effect on people living below the poverty line. Absolute poverty compares households based on a set income level. And this level varies from country to country depending on its overall economic conditions.

Relative poverty is when households receive 50% less than average household incomes. So they do have some money but still not enough money to afford anything above the basics. This type of poverty is, on the other hand, changeable depending on the economic growth of the country.

Why people still vote for the Tories is beyond me.
This is the government from Eton a place where they are taught to be top dog.
A place where number one is the only important number.
How to cut a deal how to make money for nothing.
Well this shower of shit have proved to be the worst advert ever ror Eton!
The so called deal Boris struck with Europe on our leaving turned out to be a total farce.
They've done well of course at looting the nation that's the so called good advert for Eton.
Once you get past the Tory owned media you soon discover it's the Tories who always leave this country saddled with debt and broken services and Labour who have been paying down the debts whilst building services up.
No longer that way anymore of course.
Kier Starmer is a WEF disciple not a parliamentary democrat any longer because Westminster has to many rules and laws he has to obey.
The matra of The WEF is you will own nothing.... that has to be the scariest political promise ever.
Watch a few seconds of admitting being a traitor to this country...

They probably vote for Tories for the same reason people vote for Trump.

They think there are two viable choices and the other thinks you can suck a girls dick..

If absolute poverty has gone down, that will no doubt affect the many people living on benefits.
I dont know much about them, but I do know if one is entitled to certain benefits, many others follow, so if a person is not earning, or earning very little, they will get help with rent, rates, and lots of other expenses that most people pay out for.

People living in'relative poverty' possibly earn a low wage, but not low enough to entitle them to help....which I imagine hundreds of thousands of household fall into that bracket.

Either way, for the Cons to be patting themselves on the back is a farce. In 14 years, they have made the rich richer, ripped off the less wealthy, more or less destroyed the NHS, and created a society where the class system is thriving more than ever I can remember.

And even more depressing....the only alternative is the whinging hypocrite Starmer.

Absolute poverty is when you can't even feed yourself never mind keep warm.  Very few people in this country are that badly off.   Perhaps the only ones who are, are the homeless.   And it's a disgrace in this day and age that anyone has to live that way.
