When we are full of self pity, moaning our lot in life, blaming others, thinking we are suffering the most in all the world, you come across something like this and it hopefully gets things into perspective, or at least encourages us to live our lives as fully as we can no matter the egregious odds.

“Ian is 15 years old. In 2019, Ian was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. After surgery and months of chemotherapy, he was declared cancer free; however, in November 2021, his cancer returned and spread throughout his body. This past week, he and his family would learn that there was nothing else they could do. The cancer that had ravaged his body in the past and he had beat would soon be the same cancer that kills him. Upon finding out that the cancer would kill him, Ian began crying. He wasn't scared of dying. Ian cried because, as he said in his own words, "I only want to do one good thing in the world before I leave you all."

Crying in this photo is Ian's little brother, Peter. Peter had just learned the devastating news that his days with his older brother were numbered. Holding him as tight as ever and kissing him on the forehead, Ian held on tightly and apologized to his brother for not being able to beat the cancer. The truth is that Ian refuses to live for himself. He chooses only to live for others until the moment he takes his very last breath.”

I almost brought something like this up. There are so many people with a body that is failing them through no fault of their own. They are suffering and dying while someone else is squandering what they have.

Just being being born healthy in the UK puts you ahead of much of the rest of the planet.

The death of a child or them being seriously ill is one reason I am an atheist. I know this. I also know that I am incredibly privilaged to live in this country. I do moan exponentially when I am really pissed. For the record I am at ............ I was there yesterday. Michelle my new alcohol counsellor is really helping niw and I am going to the group meetings. People there don't judge because they are in the same boat.

 Good.

You're in control and how things go depend on you..

Listen to the counselor and do not blame you're brothers, immigrants, posters from the past or your "luck".

You created this mess, and you have the power to fix it and lead a productive life..

Maybe someone that knew her could write a positive obituary for Tina, focusing on the positives, treating her as a real person, as a memoriam for her.  She seemed like a caring person.

Tina had two son's, they may have written a fitting tribute to their mum.

Make sure you shave, do you need a haircut?

Don't forget to polish your shoes and run a clothes brush over the suit.

Hope the funeral goes ok Phil (well as much as funerals can). Remember what you're feeling in grief is normal, make sure you chat to people about it. Maybe plan somewhere to go after the funeral that is a good and safe place for you? (I have registered to join this forum btw - I am one of the ones who knew Phil from DS and he told me about here before, or I wouldn't have known here existed!)

Yes it does. This will be the last funeral I will ever go to because they are all gone now. I just hope it goes well, I will say a few words, I hope thar they are apposite.

You may have a few decades left to meet people to connect with, and live a longer life if you choose. It is your choice whether you choose that or not, though. And make sure you remember that; Nothing automatically comes to anyone we all have to work for everything.

Just take your time and speak from the heart, it will be ok.
