We moan enough about it, but sometimes they are brilliant.
So I had an eye test at Boots a month ago, they prescribed new reading glasses...they were useless, I could actually see better with my 10 year old specs.
i tried to get used to them, couldn't, so eventually I took them back, and after another eye test they decided I needed cataract surgery. I got a refund for my glasses (eventually, after a bit of a discussion) and last Thursday they referred me to a private eye hospital, even though I am having the op done on the NHS.
I went today for an assessment, and they are doing the op next Tuesday....a wait of. just. SEVEN DAYS.

Once more...brilliant service thanks to the NHS.
I went for a post op check up on my cataract last Thursday, had a phone call today (Tuesday) and I am having my second eye done this Friday.
Same place, the private hospital that also treats NHS patients.

Thanks both....tbh I can't wait to have the second one done, then I will chase up the 2nd knee replacement that I put off 2 years ago to have the hip replacement. I will soon be like the bionic woman. Thank God I looked after my teeth.
Can't be arsed reading back so I might have already told of this.
Eye test at private optician needed glasses for driving for first time.
Had to have my reading glasses upped from 1.5 to 2.00.
Something seriously wrong with left eye on that spot the dot test so referred to hospital.
Three weeks later I'm at the main NHS eye hospital in North Wales.
Nothing wrong with my left eye beyond a small cataract that was seen by this hospital three or four years ago and the guy said his mothers is worse and he isn't operating on her so nothing to worry about.
They agreed yes I needed the new prescriptions but everything was just fine.
All done and dusted in three weeks.

Are you a former rugby player?
A future one maybe.
You're almost a robot. I'm hoping to die at 100 with all original equipment..

I used to think that too....odd how past life and time catches up.
Well, I was in and done in less than three hours this time.
Apparently this eye was worse than the first one, it took a bit longer, but the surgeon said it had 'been a success...all good'.
I can actually see better than with the first cataract removal, I could only see a bright light for about 3 days before that one cleared.
This one, even though I need more medication and for a month, I can actually see, though everything is a bit blurry.
I admit, being squeamish when it comes to eyes, I am glad it's all over.

Ugh, I can't even think about having this done. I hate anything or anyone touching my eyes.

Me too, but I'm glad I had them done now.
I had no idea I had cataracts....it was only when I went for new reading glasses, which when they came were useless.
I went back to the opticians, they gave further tests, which found the cataracts.
After having the first one done 6 weeks ago, I could see to read clearly with 10 year old glasses.

How long does it take? And what's it feel like afterwards?
The first one only took about 15 minutes, the second one was a bit longer because it was, as he told me when I was lay there terrified, 'dense' and he would have to use a ring...whatever that meant. I couldn't even answer him, I just lay there praying it wouldn't take much longer.
But like I said, I am mardy when it comes to eyes.
You feel no pain at all, just pressure on the eyeball. All you see is very bright lights, which you have to look into as they operate. Your face is completely covered save for the one eye they are operating on.
Afterwards, both were different for me. The first one I could see nothing for about 3 days...this one I can see everything, just a bit blurry.
So far, there is no after pain with either.
