Maddog, I'm not surprised you are wary of drinking tap water.

What city has the worst tap water?

Cities With the Worst Public Water Quality
Houston, Texas. ...
Omaha, Nebraska. ...
Fresno, California. ...
Reno, Nevada. ...
Modesto, California. ...
Pasadena, California. ...
Lubbock, Texas. ...
Midland, Texas. Midland's drinking water contains 16 contaminants with levels above acceptable health limits, as well as 30 contaminants of potential concern.

Well, all of those places are about as close to me as London is to you. Or Kiev in some cases..

But as Diggs mentioned all of us are suspetable to things in our water.

I don't know how many parts per million of whatever will impact my health, but I see nothing wrong with trying to limit them.

We all do what we think best.

For me, having drank tap water all my life with no ill effects,  it's not on my list of priorities to change.

May not be a priority, but that's different than saying it can't impact your health. I do all sorts of things that aren't healthy, but I realize they are impacting my health to some degree, even if I don't notice it.

I still have several glasses of whiskey 2 or 3 nights a week. I can't measure or feel any ill effects, but they are there.

Now, if I have one at my girlfriends, my ice is made with filtered water..  😎

Fair enough.
For me, I would rather shave a few years off my life and enjoy my wine, my cold glasses of tap water, and my odd (to you and Jack) way of preparing my meals.lol

I see people 20 or 30 years younger than me, fat , unfit, and generally struggling,  so God willing (apart from the joint replacements) I think I am doing OK for an old bird.happy

I don't think your cooking techniques are generally unhealthy. Ingredients play a bigger part in health..Browning your meat first makes a roast taste better, not healthier..

And the comparison to others isn't the best way to measure these things, even though I do it too.

A better idea is to compare yourself to where you could be, with better choices..

Well I wouldn't know where I would be would I?  dunno

I think the better way is to ask yourself if you are happy with yourself?
If not, definitely try to do something about it, if you are....carry on regardless. x

Healthier, stronger would simply mean better equipped to handle what life throws at you, especially as we age.

And this gets back to what Dr Attia calls healthspan vs lifespan. Remaining alive is only part of the equation. Being healthy during "the last decade" is also very important and there are things you can do to make yourself healthier, and I would think happier..

I'm sure y'all have a similar saying like "if you don't have your health, you don't have anything"..

I would say, do I want to live to be 90, healthy in mind and body, at the cost of depriving myself of all my favourite foods, drinks, hobbies and bad habits??
Or do I want to live to be 70 or 80, eating, drinking, enjoying more risky sports, sunbathing etc etc...and go out with a smile on my face.

No contest.wink

Hobbies are good for you (unless your hobby is eating bad food). I don't think depriving yourself all of the time is a good idea either. Odd thing with blue zones around the world is that they often include wine. It's thought the social interaction that comes with a glass of wine or two offsets the negative impact of literally consuming a poison..

And most people need more sun exposure, not less. It's why so many people are deficient in vitamin D..

But what would you be deprived of by filtering water or eating healthier alternatives to the same food?.

A few quid?

I do eat healthy though.
I eat it because I enjoy salads, fish, chicken, fruit, fresh veg, etc etc.

But I can also eat comfort food too...Tonight a steak pie with flaky pastry (bought not homemade) potatoes and broccoli...with salt and lots of butter....and wine.
Then I am going to have a tiramisu...and coffee.

And the few quid I could spend on a water filter, I might buy a new dress instead....happy

Some of the things you have rattled off suggestions they are unhealthy, aren't.

He's right though.   And why do you keep posting the same lines.   Think of something new and original.

It's not like I'm saying anything revolutionary. Do people not realize that your body runs better with the proper nutrition and exercise, and a good running body is better at dealing with age a fall, cancer or some weird virus cooked up in a lab in China?

But he's at it non-stop, maybe he's the one who should think of something new and original.

Do any of you in the UK use an air fryer? I'm toying with the idea of getting one but I'm not sure if it would be worth it, and fear it might end up as another gadget that I'd use a few times then put away, never to see the light of day again.

You seem to be the only one bothered by it for some odd reason.   Perhaps start some topics of your own that  will create some scintillating discussion.

I don't, but I know quite a few that do, and they love them.
