I personally think they are, for the majority of youngsters, a complete waste of time and money.

I agree, I think now everyone expects to go to university, and society expects them to, but they often have no actual goal they're aiming for and often we have people with degrees working in low-level jobs you shouldn't need a degree for. I do agree with the idea that no knowledge is wasted and a degree is never going to be bad but ultimately I think the whole thing has just become diluted because it's become the "norm". We need to encourage kids to consider apprenticeships etc. more.

Apprenticeships are far better. They learn on the job, and guaranteed a job after.

I think it depends what the degree is in tbh.
Some seem to be useless, just an excuse for kids to live the student lifestyle for a couple of extra years, they don't help get jobs at the end of them. I doubt a degree in religious studies or fashion design will help anyone get a decent job, the 2 or 3 years would have been better spent getting hands on experience.

Alternatively, sometimes they do help. My grandson got a masters in Biochemistry, his first interview he was up against 50 odd applicants, and he got the job, with no previous work experience, he is still there 4 years on.

Yes, you need a degree to be proficient in many fields

I'm no dummy, but I'm not an engineer. You don't want me designing bridges or airplanes..

But there are far too many worthless degrees. Those should be available, but society shouldn't be asked to pay for them..

She couldn't dance, and when she did it was overly sexual.   She was fat and blowsy too.  Not a good combo for a dancer.  She was of the 'squatting over mirrors' mentality.   Used to brag about how many men she shagged 'even on my period'.  Weird.  Perhaps she was Russian descent.
