I think that there is no doubt that Netflix and Gadd, failed in their 'duty of care' to protect the people who were being portrayed in this series.
It apparently took no time to trace the real Martha, who has received death threats since the Netflix release, the 'groomer' was wrongly outed, and he has had to defend his name and his reputation, and what was billed as a 'true story', obviously has many events that, so far, have not been verified as ever actually happened.
Bloody hell, riveting and powerful, I am up to ep 6.
Will be back.
Binge-watched it a couple of days ago, Syl. Yeah, it was compelling in a ‘couldn’t look away’ way. But, honestly? Probably one of the most depressing shows I’ve ever sat through.
She‘s a head case, obviously. And he’s a mediocre, instantly forgettable guy, who’s genuinely baffled that the world can’t see how special he thinks he is. Delusional, ego-driven folks like him are ten a penny, really. Loads go on to be SM ‘influencers’
Liked his Mum & Dad, but don’t even get me started on the groomer guy…
'Martha' has had most of the publicity...the male groomer, who was wrongly named to be a top producer, who has actually worked with Gadd, has yet to be positively named.
I'm sure he will be eventually, it certainly didn't take online sleuths long to find the real life Martha.
Have you watched the Piers Morgan interview with Fiona Harvey? It's as riveting as the series.
Not yet, but will try to catch up with that this weekend. Thanks.
If groomer guy is for real and is even HALF as hideously exploitative as he was portrayed in Reindeer, then bring on the naming & shaming! Can’t happen soon enough

Apparently no police records have been shown to suggest she had been arrested before for stalking. Unless they are not providing them.
Personally I think she was stalking Gadd, and is seriously mentally ill imo. Gadd though came across weak and enjoyed the stalking at first, practically encouraging her. I don't think he's all the ticket either tbh.

She was definitely stalking him, I don't think it's all in his head, how much he imagined, or exaggerated, will no doubt come out if she sues and it gets to court.
My bet is, if Netflix can't prove that what has been advertised as a true story, actually is, they will settle out of court, and Fiona Harvey will end up a very wealthy woman.
"It was the real-life TV drama that took the world by storm — but now Netflix has been hit by a $170million lawsuit filed by the woman who is said to be the inspiration for the crazed stalker in Baby Reindeer.
Fiona Harvey says the show — billed as a “true story” — is the “biggest lie in television history” because the character in the global hit show spent five years in prison and carried out a sexual assault."
