Ways the government can raise more money?

They always say the costs will be put on the broadest shoulders but that's never the case.

Just eight pence in every pound raised in tax revenue in G20 countries now comes from taxes on wealth, reveals new analysis by Oxfam today ahead of the first meeting of G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

By comparison, more than 32 pence in every pound (over four times as much) is collected from taxes on goods and services. Taxes on food and other necessities, for example, shift more of the tax burden onto lower-income families. In countries including Brazil, France, Italy, the UK and US, the super-rich pay an effective tax rate lower than the average worker.

What if every adult in the U.K paid an extra £1 a day in taxes.... anyone any idea how much that would raise?

Depriving 10 million pensioners of their winter fuel allowance, which has been paid for the last 27 years, is almost like OAP's are contributing that anyway.

OAP's are slowly being painted as the enemy and lots of people are falling for it.

Not long ago the cry went up to bring our pensioners up to the same levels as most Europeans but now pensioners are being painted as greedy and lazy.

Disturbs me how easily people are manipulated to believe what they are told to.

People expecting pensioners to work till they drop.

The majority of pensioners are not lazy, they have worked full time from being 15 or 16,never claimed benefits, and now just want the luxury of being able to heat their homes in the cold winters. The cost of gas and electricity is astronomical, and for many it'll be a choice of eat or heat.
I just posted this on another thread...

"News now is that though millions of OAP's are denied the much needed winter fuel allowance, there are other payments pensioners can claim.

They are all aimed at people who already get benefits....which will exclude most of the 10 million who don't claim pension credit.

Do these idiots not realise that the majority of pensioners have worked for a living and not relied on handouts...not then, not now. They may be a few pounds over the pittance they are allowed, but it exempts them from claiming any benefits....which they would be too proud to do in the first place"

As for the way the government can collect more money, they are going about it the right way.

Just kill off the old.

Apart from not paying the winter fuel allowance, stop the free bus passes, charge them for prescriptions, withdraw the single council tax reduction, which will hit many very elderly widows/widowers.....iI'm sure they have a few more tricks up their sleeves to get rid of the scrounging, lazy old folk. crazy

  That's not wrong.

The government spent almost 4 billion last year housing asylum seekers. Hundreds of thousands more have arrived since those figures were released last June....so it's possibly nearer 5 billion now.

They estimate to save one and a half billion on taking the winter fuel payment away from 10 million pensioners.

It's inevitable that thousands of old people will need NHS treatment that they wouldn't have needed,  because they won't be able to keep warm enough, and that's already been predicted....so Starmer and Co will possibly be out of pocket anyway....idiots.

 You have VATs too.

Those are easy to hide and people don't feel them as much..

If people had to sit down and pay all of their taxes like a monthly bill, they would revolt..

Now, I prefer sales taxes because they are simpler. Just eliminate income tax and make the sales tax transparent..
