The real danger of on line trolling and catfishing

A family has expressed their rage after a father and daughter were driven to suicide by a prolific 'catfish' abuser.

Cimarron Thomas, 12, who was named for the first time after a court order protecting her identity was lifted, used her father's handgun to take her own life after being blackmailed online by computer student Alexander McCartney.

Eighteen months later, her grief-stricken father Ben, a former US army veteran, took his own life, Belfast Crown Court was told. 

To the fury of the victims' family, McCartney was convicted of manslaughter, rather than murder, of the American youngster and faces life imprisonment when he is sentenced next week.

Speaking to MailOnline, an uncle said: 'He might as well have pulled the trigger himself and killed both my niece and brother.

Doesn't matter whether it's taken to this extreme or whether you just think posting real life details of someone's life on your forum is a harmless bit of piss taking.  I was wondering how long it would take for you to come crawling out of the woodwork.   No good trying to project your inner guilt on me.   Gobby and offensive doesn't equate to what you and your ilk did.   Now, you jog on and perhaps reflect on your behaviour.

 Lord knows she did enough of it.   But I don't think she actually did any great harm to anyone other than make a handful of randy men look utter fools on the forum.  The Irish Oink, on the other hand, went out of her way to destroy people.

He's been sentenced today to a minimum of twenty years.

The Judge said he was devoid of normal human empathy and revelled in his ability to humiliate and degrade his victims.

Sounds like all internet trolls.

Those bastards who left little Sara dead after torturing her for months, then fled the country, should get one each.

Death penalty for the couple at the High court in Edinburgh last week convicted of abusing sexually and physically four children.

They even forced two of the wee boys aged three and seven to rape the one year old baby girl.

Most of the details are to horrendous to be published in the papers.

They jury have been offered counselling.

They get sentenced after social worker reports, she was taken down to the cells crying hysterically.
