My mother didn't really get depressed. She just didn't buy into rehab. She didn't think all of that physical activity was going to help..
She was living on her own til about 88. Broke her hip, wouldn't rehab seriously and was dead at 89.
Plus she ate like shit.
She could have made 100 bases on her genetics..She was naturally slim and her mother made 96..
I remember you saying she had 'given up' which sounds like depression to me.
State of mind usurps all imo, My MIL lived to 104, physically she deteriorated badly in the last couple of years, she had some sort of dementia, was blind, couldn't walk (though she thought she could) couldn't hear, but she thought she would live forever, and she really wanted to.

She gave up in the sense that she wasn't going to do anything that was too much of a bother.
I would show up during her PT and ask the therapist how she was doing. He'd say fine out loud and roll his eyes where she couldn't see them. Ultimately, we all have one body and can treat as we wish. My dad smoked cigarettes until his first heart attack. Like not doing what's good for you, doing what's bad for you is a personal choice.
She was depressed about the whole Covid thing and being locked up away from her family, but she should have been walking long before it was an issue. Her weakened condition and poor fitness made her very unlikely to survive that whole ordeal.
Motorcyclists that never wear helmets and die of old age anyway..
Do you know how statistics amd probability work?
Yes thanks.
Then why make a stupid comment pointing out that the results of any analysis are not 100%.
Do you think lifestyle and activities impact longevity and health or has your day of death already been decided?.
I don't drink alcohol, I don't exercise although I'm reasonably active, I don't have a strict healthy diet, I have a sweet tooth (bad at times), my BP is normal, I have no major illnesses and I'm not overweight.
Are you still overweight despite reading tons of health literature (going by the number of links you've posted)? If so why are you overweight?...why are you not lifting heavier weights? why are you not controlling your calories? are you eating unhealthy food if so why? I'd be mortified if I were that much overweight, 20lbs was it?
Not having a personal dig at you per se but to offer up all this so called advice and poo poo others for living within their capabilities

There is no doubt Covid finished a lot of people off before their time, and that's without them even dying of the disease.

I'm not poo pooing others for how they live.
But on a thread about activities that promote health and longevity, I will poo poo people that think they know better than experts in the field..
The whole point of this thread is to put forth the information, and for some reason it has devolved into attacking the information. It's bizarre.
I've brought up smoking a few times..I don't care if you do it, and I won't judge you, unless you try to tell me it's not unhealthy.
So how about you tell me how your more qualified to to talk on this subject than say this guy?
"Dr. Attia received his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine and trained for five years at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in general surgery, where he was the recipient of several prestigious awards, including resident of the year.
He spent two years at the National Institutes of Health as a surgical oncology fellow at the National Cancer Institute, where his research focused on immune-based therapies for melanoma.
He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and three kids.
He is licensed in Texas (S8803), California (A96452), and New York (281406-1)."
Let's face it. We are all old. This thread is to make getting old less debilitating.
I'll start with a short clip from Peter Attia. If you're not following him, I suggest you start. He's one of the premier longevity experts on the planet.
Buy his book too. If you're counting on twice a year, 15 minute doctor appointments to keep you healthy at this stage, you're going to be disappointed..
"Heavy lifts are important because they promote significant muscle growth, strengthen bones and connective tissues, improve overall body composition by increasing muscle mass and reducing fat, enhance metabolic rate (calorie burning), and can even help prevent injuries when performed correctly by improving joint stability and body mechanics. "
Let it go, mate.
Let what go?
The stuck record.
Perhaps you should review the title of the thread.
Then go get some effective exercise..
You like telling people what to do, but here's an exercise tip for you, although you might struggle with it
"A big part of avoiding weightlifting injuries is about letting go of the ego"

I don't like telling people what to do, I do like presenting data that will improve their lives..
Thanks for the link. Have I ever suggested people lift improperly? 🤔
Going heavy doesn't mean going stupid..
I'm thinking more about letting go of the ego. It can help with much more than weightlifting, especially with forming better relationships with people.
