COMMUNICATION?

We live in the age of communication.

Instantly call your friends and family anywhere.

We have video connections we have video information galore search a word a phrase a song line and instantly we're connected

to a world of information.

There's never been anything like this before and my grandchildren cannot comprehend that it's all relatively new

and the world got by with nothing resembling it before!

Yet people are finding it ever harder to communicate with each other.

The world has broken into factions.

If you voted leave (EU ref) you didn't just have a different opinion from the people who voted remain

you were actually stupid evil and so on and if you voted remain... the same.

I just read a piece... will America fall into civil war if Trump isn't elected and the overwhelming consensus is

America is going to fall into civil war anyway because the parties and their

characters aren't the real reason for the hate...

people just hate each other anyway now like never before.

The same is happening in the UK too with gender issues immigration Muslims Christians and so on.

People are taking sides and not communicating without vitriol.

The age of communication and we can no longer talk to each other.

The world has changed that's for sure, the main reason is obviously technology, but I think people have always hated each other, especially if they are told to...look at the two world wars.

Communication has to start in the home, ignore young kids because you are more interested in your mobile phone, and they will follow suit.
Family meals, when everyone sits round the table and actually talk to each other (no phones at the table) teaches kids the art of talking, listening, and understanding that not everyone has the same viewpoint as them.

Simple, but it works.

It does, I did that with mine, no phones then.

I think mum's should do it today.  Chat about the day, take an interest in what their kids are doing at school or work. Really does work.

It does work Mags. No phones when my son was young, but grandkids always followed the rule that they didn't bring their mobiles to the table.

Like all modern kids, they loved their phones and tablets, but at the caravan the signals were useless, so they couldn't use them.

Every time we went (thousands) the first hour they did nothing but moan, then they gave up, did other things, either together or as a family, and to this day (they are now grown) they say spending time there wa the happiest times of their lives.

The problem with communication now is that people can retreat to echo chambers with like minded people, that constantly reinforce their beliefs.

In the old days, one had to interact with all sorts of people that had different views.

Now, you just set up social media with 100s of people that agree with you, and block anyone that challenges you..

So true, and it's made people very intolerant of others.

I didn't want to mention him, but since you did, he was bouncing around my brain when I typed that. Not the only person, but one of them.

 Here's an example

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czj7eex29r3o

Rumours, misleading allegations and outright lies about voting and fraud are flooding online spaces in unprecedented numbers in advance of the US election.

 That's one for sure.

I've seen polls posted that show Trump up by 20 points..

Some folks believe those polls and when the reality hits Tuesday night, they won't believe it..

Well, he wasn't up by 20 points, but about 2.

That was enough.
