Has anyone been following this?

"Judges in the French city of Avignon have sentenced Dominique Pelicot to 20 years in prison for aggravated rape after he drugged and abused his then wife, Gisèle Pelicot, and invited dozens of strangers to rape her.

Dominique stood accused alongside 50 other men. Of the 50 co-defendants found guilty, 46 were found guilty of rape, two guilty of attempted rape, and two guilty of sexual assault.

For almost a decade, Gisèle Pelicot was unknowingly given sedatives by her ex-husband, who has admitted to raping her and inviting men he had recruited online to have sex with her in her bed at home while she was unconscious and unaware.

Although Dominique Pelicot admitted the charges against him, most of the other men on trial denied what they did was rape.

It was Gisèle's decision to waive her anonymity and throw this trial into the open - in her words, making "shame swap sides" from the victim to the rapist - something which has turned the 72-year-old into a feminist icon."

I’ve been following it. Every bloke involved should be named and shamed across the media.

Her sod of a husband would have been still at it if he hadn’t been caught perving elsewhere.

She’s truly a remarkable woman, has more balls than the rapists.

Caught some of it on the news this morning and thought I must have missed something.
But no it really is this bad!
Blokes almost queuing up to have sex with an unconscious woman.
Not sure it can even be called sex.

It's appalling. I've been following this since it came out.

What a dirty, filthy scumbag her so called husband is filming 50 men raping her after he drugged her!

What a brave awe inspiring woman to stand tall above the shitbag rapists in court and look them in the face. Kudos to her.

She is amazingly brave and controlled. It's unbelievable how she has managed to stay so calm and controlled, it must have felt like she had been living in a nightmare when she found out what had been happening.

I heard one of the rapists has HIV, and now their daughter believes her father also raped her.

I believe her ex husband cried in court when sentenced…hahaha, hopefully he’ll be crying harder in prison.

She gave a dignified speech, even thanking the Press. If this had happened in the UK I doubt very much the Press here would have treated her as graciously.

i hope she has given courage to other rape victims out there.

Side note: she has glorious hair, I’m quite envious.

All those men should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and there's no way I'd ever forgive them if I were the wife or kids. Dirty bastards.

It's horrible that so many men could have sex with a comatose woman, she was actually snoring in one account.
Another HIV positive animal returned several times, knowing he was affected, without using a condom. He should be charged with more than rape.

It's a lot to digest....how human beings can be so depraved, and all the time, this was masterminded by her husband.
It's a pity the maximum sentence he could be given in France is 20 years.

Police are now looking into a murder they think he may have committed/been involved in, years ago.

Yes I read about the murder was in 1991 I think.

Disgusting, pervy monster!

The other rapists, I really hope their wives, families kick them out!

What's most disturbing is these were so called 'ordinary' men, some with good occupations and many of them married with kids.   What is it with men?   Can any man honestly hold his hand up and  say he wouldn't take it if it was offered on a plate if he thought he could get away with it?

No I don't think many, knowing she was drugged as she never moved,  would tbh.  They have got to be sick in the first place.

 I don't think that's fair tbh.

I'm sure many men would not take up the offer of a quick meaningless shag, especially if they had a happy family life.

But these 'men' had sex with an unconscious woman, one even talked about drugging his own mother and using her in the same way.

I'm sure the majority of men are as appalled as the majority of women are.

I'd say a few men wouldn't  but most men would.   Not raping an unconscious woman but taking a quick covert roll in the hay if it was offered.

Yes, and most were family men.  One daft cow was sticking by her husband in the court even after hearing all the gory details of what he's partaken in.

I think I have more faith in men than you....maybe I wear rose coloured glasses, but I look at the men in my family, and I honestly can't see them cheating around for a quick fuck. I know some men would, but equally, many men would not.

And some married women are not averse to sneaking off for the odd one-night stand if they think they can get away with it, I have seen that happen more than once.

To act like these men have acted is a different thing, they are without feelings and morally corrupt, and that probably comes across in many aspects of their lives.

"17 of the 49 men who were convicted of raping or sexually assaulting Ms Pelicot are appealing their sentences. More could follow before the window to lodge appeals closes at midnight on 30 December."  "Pelicot - who admitted his guilt - had decided not to appeal as he did not want to inflict a "new ordeal" on Ms Pelicot, who attended court for the vast majority of the 15-week-long trial." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckg1plx12x2o

How noble of him, raped and encouraged others to rape his wife yet is now mindful of her welfare.

I feel they all received lenient sentences, so to learn that some of these degenerates are complaining of too long a sentence is mind-boggling. Reminds me, in some ways, of Brock Turner's father who "...had called on the judge to grant his son probation, saying that he had already paid “a steep price ... for 20 minutes of action”. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/jun/06/father-stanford-university-student-brock-turner-sexual-assault-statement

Rape / sexual assault is no big deal to some it seems.

Gisèle Pelicot intends to attend the appeal cases.

" Under French law, a new trial will have to be held over the next 12 months. However, unlike the first trial, it will be judged by three magistrates and a jury made up of nine members of the public.

While this will not necessarily result in harsher sentences, the trial's huge resonance and media coverage may mean the jury ends up being less lenient than the judges. Although they will be closely vetted, "members of the jury are humans like you and I and may well have preconceptions," lawyer Hansu Yalaz told the BBC."

Fingers crossed Joe Public dishes out real sentences. Unfortunately what they deserve and what they got/get don't often tally.

I hope the authorities are actively looking for ...about 20 individuals (who) were never identified and are believed to be still at large."

One deviant  "was appealing the guilty verdict as "there was no criminal intention on his part"...how anyone can have sex with an unconscious woman and not see it as rape says a lot about the bloke.
