Not anymore.   Easier to go to chippie now.  My  dad did great chips when I was a kid.  Made fat ones in a frying pan. Yum.

We used to use lard in the frying pan, it took a few minutes to turn liquid....the chips were delicious.
I doubt we changed the lard as often as we should have done...but the more it was used, the tastier the chips were.

I always save a little bacon grease and store it in a container in the fridge. I put in a teaspoon or so and some avocado oil before I cook some things in my cast iron. I rarely cook potatoes anymore and I would roast them if I did, but fried potatoes in animal fat sure are tasty. Some of our restaurants are switching back to animal fats to get away from seed oils.

I save fat from roasting meat and reuse it, either for chicken or roast potatoes.
