He’s announced his intention to step away from DOGE in May.
Well, sure he will! Now that he oversaw the dismantling of government agencies that were investigating his businesses, upended people’s careers/lives, and sweepingly mined all the sensitive/classified information he wanted (across the board) - he can finally bin that ‘chainsaw’.
His ‘work’ is done 🙄
Special government positions created by the president like that are always temporary. DOGE isn't.
You didn't think he was going to stay did you?.
I expected him to stay until he accomplished exactly what he set out to do - which he has.
Clearly, that didn’t include acting in the best interests of ”hardworking American taxpayers” 🙄

I suspect that he will step down in May as he will be forced to make a choice by the investors in his companies, especially Tesla, on what he thinks is more important. I doubt they will allow him free reign to continue on with his DOGE exploits if it conflicts with the success of his businesses (which it evidently does.)
Elon himself may think there is too much downside to carrying on. Even if DOGE has made $100 billion in cuts (but the verified total may be a lot less) that could be more than offset by the economic damages of Trump's trade policies in relation to monies coming into the Treasury from tax receipts from business, and it looks like tourism may be hit particularly hard. It seems like a fools errand for him to carry on with something which ultimately won't be effective and at the same time is causing him a large amount of reputational damages and sinking the value of his companies.
Avon, I’d bet my house the verified total doesn’t even come close to $100 billion. imo, the whole DOGE debacle was to serve Elon’s interests & little else.
And speaking of reputational damage, this caught my eye on X…
Sullivan: “This has been an unadulterated disaster. And it’s because it’s not just about the policy—it’s that President Trump and his team have gone at the core American advantages in the world and systematically tried to dismantle them.
Our allies? They’ve trashed them. Our basic confidence in investing in the United States as the strongest economy in the world? They’ve cast that into question. Our soft power—the idea that the United States is a beacon of light in the world? They’ve taken that away. The idea that America is the place that attracts the best talent from all over the world for science and innovation? They’ve made people fear that if you’re an immigrant coming here to study or do research, you could be thrown in jail.
So, across all of the major dimensions of the things that have been America’s major advantages, in less than a hundred days, President Trump has put them all at risk”

His time was always limited. These postions are temporary. Like a special prosecutor. As for accomplishing anything, he's lost about as much personal wealth as he cut from our budget.

Washington isn't going to seriously cut spending.
Uh-huh…okay. Cry me a river.
Using The New York Times' figures, Musk's companies would have made roughly $8 million per day from government contracts in fiscal year 2023. These figures are backed by usaspending.gov data, which shows that SpaceX and Tesla alone received $3.1 billion in federal grants that year.
So his secret weapon is losing a few hundred billion in exchange for some "data"?
🙄
That wasn't part of the plan though... this is where their incompetence at playing politics is glaringly obvious.
Musk didn't plan for Tesla to nosedive for him and his cars to be reviled and set on fire.
From hero to zero in the blink of an eye wasn't supposed to happen just like the economic warfare Trump has unleashed on the planet was supposed to be a mostly one sided couldn't lose kind of affair but again not very good at business or politics they are still struggling to figure out how and why the whole world has fought back.
The end of American dominance in the world was equally not foreseen or planned but is now a certainty.

(again with the rolly-eyes, ffs)
Yeah, he’ll soon be queuing up at the nearest food bank. That’s assuming DOGE hasn’t decimated funding for that too by now.
He’s undeniably mercurial, vindictive, temperamental, unstable, and he’s almost always gakked-up on ketamine and other assorted stimulants. Even his own mother has gone on record to confirm her boy is “developmentally disabled“.
So who TF can predict WTF motivates him and what his endgame will turn out to be? You??

I think Elon is smart enough to know this was a terrible business decision.
Elon has "fuck you" money..He didn't do it for the money or to gain some data on people. He did it because he thinks government is broken, inefficient and corrupt. Couple that with liking power and that's why he did it.
There's a reason the very wealthy try to remain very neutral in politics and play both sides. It's far more lucrative.
Elon knows that too. He just doesn't give a fuck..
There’s no way anyone with that grotesque amount of “fuck you“ money should have ever been allowed such close proximity to the US presidency.
Musk is an unstable head case, and trump is an unscrupulous manwhore who was more than happy to allow Musk free rein in exchange for the presidency. So here we are.
I'm also convinced that his DOGE capers has yielded Musk access to all kinds of private/classified information he could use as leverage to bend people to his will.

Then he should have put his name forward for election as something or other.
I think you really believe his intentions were pure and for the good of the American people

Very neutral is the exact opposite of what he did though.
The guy does not understand politics at all really does he.
He's not the great inventor or designer he's portrayed as.
He invented and designed nothing in fact. The only reason Tesla is his isn't because he built it created it it's because he became the largest shareholder... completely different story.
He's an attention whore as everyone has seen the last couple of years and mentally unstable and unfit for such power and influence as he wields just now.

I never said his intentions were pure.
He doesn't want to be a politician, why would he run for something?
Very neutral is exactly the opposite of what he did, and what I said.
What I said was he hates useless government and jumped at the chance to take it on. And he didn't have a profit motive behind taking that jump..

Musk has loved the government just the way it's been for the last few years enabling him to take billions of dollars of tax payers money in corporate welfare.

But you left it all to late.
The debt is unpayable trump and Musks hatchet approach will make matters so bad you'll be witnessing the fall of Rome 21st century style in fact that's exactly what you're witnessing right now.
Your debt solving problems should have started after Jimmy Carter but what did you do?
You voted in a small time actor who blew it all up and really started the debt ball rolling!
I don't think many Americans realise that the axe wielding clowns you have in charge just now have taken a wrecking ball to your global standing.
The deals the rest of the world are making just now won't be able to be turned back in Americas favour.
The world is marching on without you... it is now impossible to stop that train as it already left.
All your industries are reliant on the rest of the world but no one told Trump.
All your industries are now quitting America or getting ready to simply stop operating.
It's to be expected when the guy in charge broke more businesses than made successes.

Like I said before it should have been dealt with back at the end of the 70's but Ronald Reagan was voted in so such possibilities ended there and then.
The equivalent in the U.k would have been having Sid James as prime minister!
Carry on spending...

Who passed every budget since 1980?
Why hasn't any politican done anything about the debt to GDP ratio as it climbed?
No one is expecting the US (or any country) to pay off their debt. But debt to GFP of 60 0r 70 percent is doable
All America is really left with regarding it's debts is default and war. Looks like that's what's being prepped for from where I'm sitting.
Probably won't have enough money for a war.
And US voters have elected congressmen every 2 years that have drawn these budgets up and passed them.
There's no discipline or spine anywhere in DC. No discipline in my country at all..

See now, this entire post draws me in. Because, clearly, it’s heartfelt.
While the rest of the world is looking in with shock and awe, you‘ve actually been experiencing all the years of batshit governance in real time. As I’ve said before, I view you as the ‘boots on the ground’ guy.
And again, FWIW, that’s why I have to respect your opinions - no matter how much I may disagree with some of what you say, or how many rolly-eyes you aim at me.
