Put it on the backs of my grandkids?

No thanks

Higher corporation tax, wealth tax, tax cuts for middle income homes and small business.

Would it have worked? Would it have dealt with the structural problems in the US economy? I don't know. However, it was a credible economic plan. The Democrats might have gone completely overboard on the cultural stuff however which cost them dearly.

I really do hope Trump succeeds on the economy as it will give the UK some clue to get us out of the hole we are in. I don't think he will, and I don't think Labour over here will either.

If that was ever going to be done, it would have been done already.

The only that will work for these clowns is to stop sending them money under the pretext they are going to use it to help people..

36 Trillion and still rising.

Has it found ridiculous spending we can't pay for without ever increasing levels of debt?

Unfortunately, wasting money on stupid shit isn't actually fraud. It's perfectly legal..

Any American with half a brain has known that social security is a ponzi scheme.  It's going to be underfunded in a few years and there is no account with your money in it. The government spent it as soon as it received it from you..

And no one has a clue how to deal with it!

It's not difficult to keep any fund like that solvent..You either increase the contributions into the account or decrease the payments out of the account..

But having the political will is entirely different..

There are deposits and withdrawals. There is no account with a bunch of money. You just need to keep the deposits slightly ahead of the withdrawals.

There are people that think their money is sitting around in an account. It's gone and spent. People receive social security right now are being paid with money being received right now..

I think the Ponzi scheme label is being used deliberately perjoratively to undermine the fundamental need for Social Security as a safety net.

It does have features like a Pozi scheme in that new money is used to pay out people who have previously paid in but there is no intent to deliberately deceive or inflated promises. It is unsustainable however and needs reform.

I think it's being used to describe the system as one that will collapse without reform.

Well if the predicted Q1 GDP estimates are correct then cuts to SS spending may happen a lot sooner than anticipated.

I thought you guys had a couple of years in the tank before the real pain arrived. It may be less than a year.

Benefits will start being cut in 10 years. Of course the solution gets more difficult as we get closer to that date..

Oh, your social security programme is much more limited than the UK version then. It would be like the UK cutting the state pension I guess.

The current system does seem unworkable particularly given demographic change. I cannot see cuts being very popular though no matter how necessary when or if they come, especially if people are struggling with the cost of living.

It would be like cutting the state pension and the NHS at the same time.

They could means test these things and they are going to have to raise the age of eligibility..We are living far longer than we used to, amd most of us aren't decrepit or already dead at 65 like they were in 1935 when this started

"Elon Musk, US President Donald Trump's DOGE chief, has scrapped a task force which helped find hundreds of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia."

"As per reports, the Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) is the latest organisation to fall prey to Musk and DOGE's (Department of Government Efficiency) cost-cutting measures.

What is HRL?
The HRL is a Yale University-based organisation that has estimated that more than 20,000 Ukrainian children have been kidnapped by the Russians since the 2022 invasion.

"Researchers at the Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL) were notified recently that government funding for their work on the war in Ukraine has been discontinued," said a Yale spokesperson.

"HRL investigates and addresses humanitarian crises worldwide, using data and analysis from open-source and remote sensing."

Working with Bring Kids Back UA, a campaign launched by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, the HRL has located hundreds of children who were unlawfully brought to Russia."

There appears to be some pressure from Tesla stock holders to get Elon to sell his majority stake and also step down as CEO, while there's still a company left to run.

This is could be the largest bust in history attributed to the politics of the largest share holder.

And while Elon will be fine, those 125,000 employees of Tesla might not be..
