My first one would be this one by French singer Francoise Hardy.
Oh the nostalgia. I was 17, first love, I was working away for the season, met a gorgeous boy, we fell in love, (or fancied each other like mad) Circumstances beyond my control meant I moved from where we were working, to the other side of the country. This record came on the radio, all the words resonated with me so much, It felt like it had been written just for us.
Months later, I was back home, he came up unexpectedly to see me (he lived in London) ... the magic had gone. I had met someone else, who I stayed with for 7 years.
Spirit in the Sky. Came out when I was in my teens, loved it then and still do.
As a Spiritualist I believe in spirit. I'm having this played at my funeral.
That one is very apt for a funeral, Mags, a happy song too...not that you want people to be cheerfully laughing and dancing in the isles, but going out with a smile is a nice thought.

For me, it’s an old Italian song (sorry, folks!). Because of the lyrics, I often listened to it after my husband passed away. And yeah, much
Che vuole questa musica stasera, che mi riporta un poco del passato = What’s with this music tonight, which transports me back into some of the past.
I don't know that song, but I can see how the words would mean so much. If only we could revisit some of the happy past times with people who are no longer with us.
Don't apologise for posting Italian songs, some of their best music, when translated into English, have been some of the best-selling classics here.
David Ackles, Down River. I want this for my funeral, well it's one of a few. It's a beautiful evocative song that captures the epitome of isolation in every chord. My mother introduced it to me. Elton John and Elvis Costello did a cover and I wasn't keen. Can't beat the orignal.

When I met my OH in the mid 70's. we had both been through difficult times. Anyway, I called a cab to get home one night, he turned up, winked at me...and that was it. This morning I heard Romesh Ranganathan on radio 4's Desert Island Discs....he is a really interesting and funny man. Apart from being a stand-up comedian, actor and presenter, he now hosts The Weakest Link, and does it brilliantly.
