 Brenda was an absolute freak with mental health problems.

So was it her right as a matter of free speech to voice her opinion on that matter, as relentlessly as she seemingly did?  I don’t believe she ever made any threats or similar, so was it ever a criminal offence? She’ll never get to find out.

 I think you will find a prolonged campaign of dehumanizing harassment and online abuse against one person  goes a bit further than "you're an ugly cow".

Adults and teenagers have killed themselves due to it as Syl mentioned above. The woman who wrote "words on a screen" is now dead because her hate speech was exposed. 

There definitely needs to be policing of teenagers receiving an onslaught of online abuse because they never get any respite.

Before social media  home was a refuge for victims of  toxic bullying.  Not so now. Victims are bullied at school, receive dozens of bullying texts at home, have to endure websites dedicated to how worthless they are and how they should just kill themselves. Sadly some teenagers with their whole lives ahead of them have done just that.

But yeah, just words on a screen..

Very similar to "Only Fans," ( which made Katie Price a million pounds that she then lost !!) which is on the scene now and many young ladies film from their bedroom.. and any woman or man can do it. One young blonde boy made millions ,cynically watched by pervy old men but that's the point isn't it?

Why do certain women care so much about women taking their clothes off and not the men who watch it every day? Men involved in porn would just laugh at any attempt to shame them online, whether you think they are deserving of a stern telling off is irrelevant. The rest of the world doesn't  agree.  There is no supply without demand. I wouldn't say Only Fans is commonplace  but about 1 in 10 girls have an account .A lot of ex models and celebrities do like Kerry Katona randomly enough.

Whether you think that's right or wrong ethically it's much safer for girls working in porn to do it themselves from home than actually doing the deed with blokes you don't know.

It won't surprise you  to learn that women are the overwhelming  victims of online bullying and hate speech, men can do what they want.

Caroline Flack may have taken her life due to cyberbullying she received because of an assault  charge  but I may be wrong. The fact is social media wasn't created for strangers to sit in judgement.The keyboard warriors must never have done anything wrong themselves in their lives, they surely  live the life of Nuns. They must also be very bored!

 It shows that trolls hiding behind anonymity really are cowards at heart. It is sad though, her loved ones lost her forever  due to nastiness online. I don't condone what she did at all but her crime was not so heinous she needed to pay with her life.

The rule to go by (just imo)  is if you wouldn't say it in real life to someone in public, don't say it online. Obviously on forums like this where we know each other (sort of!) banter can go a little further. I posted on this little circle of forums regularly aged 30-37 so flipping heck that's 7 years  and am really glad that CM survived with people I know as I enjoy posting here 

That's because under Digger's ownership and your mutual moderation it is a pleasant place to post.

Guests can think I'm buttering you up all they like but I know you can see past that and it's my honest opinion.  It's a shame the established social media platforms seem to be stuck in an endless loop of trolling.

 Thanks for that, I do think this is a pleasant place to post, especially compared with some of the now defunct forums.

Truthfully, neither of us seldom have to do any modding, the place runs itself. We have had some bullying and tag teaming in the past, but it was stopped quick enough.

I remember when I was a kid, if someone said something mean to me, I would go in and tell my mum, she used to quote the saying.. 'Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me', when I was a kid, it seemed so easy to follow that.

Obviously, as an adult, I know it's not that easy. In real life, words can and do hurt...for me, on a forum, what a random stranger says, it has no effect.

If it was someone I had never met, but posted with over time, and came to like, it would have an effect.

I do try to work on the premise not to say to someone online that I would not be prepared to say to their face. Imo it's cowardly to hide anonymously saying nasty things.
