Inflammation seems to be behind every thing that gets as we age. From osteoarthritis, to heart disease, to cancer, to alzheimers..

Control that and you decrease the likelihood of all of the above.

So the exact things you would do to keep a healthy body... nothing specific to halt altzheimers.

I believe some people will suffer from dementia no matter what their lifestyle is...and some won't.

Yes, because I said above, inflammation is becoming more and more culpable in a myriad of late in life issues..

And some people are genetically gifted and others aren't.

Think about smokers. There are some non smokers that die of lung cancer in their 60s while some smokers die falling down the stairs at 85.

But I'm not about to start smoking and I don't think anyone in their right mind would say smoking has no impact on health.

You can never guarantee a change in outcome by certain lifestyles, all you can do is change the odds..

Who doesn't want better odds?

You can spend your whole life lifting weights, eating well, etc then get mown down by a car, get murdered by a maniac, or any number of ways fate ends your life

Enjoy each day as though it were your last.  If you want that cream bun eat it.   Just don't eat it every single day.

Why not eat it everyday, 3 times a day?

"Cheap blood tests that could spot Alzheimer's are set to be given to thousands of adults in an effort to 'revolutionise' NHS diagnostic rates.

In a landmark trial, researchers from University College London will use tests to detect proteins in the blood linked to the condition and other forms of dementia.

Currently, receiving a formal Alzheimer's diagnosis in the UK relies on people undergoing mental ability tests, brain scans or invasive and painful lumbar punctures.

Researchers hope the 'groundbreaking' blood test could speed up the process, allowing patients to get treated earlier and hold off the onslaught of the cruel illness."

Yes I would certainly like to know. Knowledge is power. It would be very unsettling and frightening to know if you or your loved ones were going to get that or any other disease but I think it's ultimately better to know.

You can plan and live for now. Which I suppose we should do.anyway.

You'd be worried about it all the time and looking for signs - it would drive a person mad!

You know how people forget things as you age "oh what's her name - she was in that film about the boat" kind of thing. That's just normal, but you'd be thinking 'oh fuck, here it comes'

Absolutely this nod Ignorance is bliss, in this context.

That said, although I have no family close by me, I do have 2 very good friends I’ve already given Power of Attorney to, to settle my stuff for me in the event I’m ever incapacitated.

I admire your forward thinking Vam. To trust close friends enough  to manage your business if you can't do it yourself, must be a weight off your mind.

Hopefully, for you, and all of us, it won't ever be needed.

One thing Vam is not, is daft. nod

And I agree wholeheartedly, hopefully it won't be needed x

Totally agree. I witnessed my elderly neighbour go through it and it was heartbreaking watching his decline. It must have affected me more than I thought as every time I forgot where my keys were or, yeah, someone’s name I’d get a nervy knot in my stomach. I realised it was no way to live so I convinced myself not to worry about it and to put any lapses down to aging.

Oops - sorry, I missed seeing that post of Syl’s.

BIB - to quote my favourite bestest POTUS, ever: “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

(I’m not kidding. That really is how President Poopy Pants ‘signs’ most of the deranged crap he posts on social media 😂)

 Really?

Why make it a treat? Just eat it for every meal. I guarantee you a child left.to his own choosing, would eat ice cream for every meal and still like it better than asparagus years later..

A child left to his own choosing would do lot's of wrong things, that's why they have parents to guide them.

Agreed. Eating the correct things is a good decision even if you get hit by bus and killed..

We agree then, but there is still no proof that eating certain things will bring on Alzheimer's...as far as I know.

No, but a healthy diet, a healthy weight and exercise lowers the likelihood of developing it.

It doesn't randomly impact society. It impacts certain people more and that's based on lifestyle..

I don't know that any of the above does lower the risk of developing Alzheimers.
All of the above lower the risk of being physically unhealthy, not so sure about mentally.
