It's so shocking. She was a frail-looking 78-year-old lady, and some young thug has brutally killed her, I am finding this one hard to think about.
I liked her, she spoke her mind, and whether her opinions were popular or not, she stuck to them. She never married or had children and openly said she had no interest in sex, yet she lived a full and interesting life.

RIP Ann Widdecombe.

I notice they made a point of saying he was white, I assumed that was to prevent the usual social media rumours. Probably won't stop it happening now though?

They won't comment yet on whether she was killed in a robbery. If it was a none political, terrorist unrelated, crime...that seems to be the next thing they will focus on.

 Another sad detail is that she had been attacked some 24 hrs before her body was found. (source: BBC news) 

I hope her demise was quick, the thought of an elderly person lying there with horrific injuries is just too horrifying.  Bless her, may she be at peace and the murderer found asap.

 Seconded. Hopefully her end was quick, it doesn't bear thinking about what she may have gone through before she died.

The problem with living alone is that often, unless you have close family nearby, people can lie dead or injured, and not be discovered straight away.

So the motive was not political, not terror related, not robbery. He was arrested in Yorkshire, which is quite a way from Devon.
I wonder if 'mental illness' will be blamed....again.
