Mans inhumanity to man.

At the end of the day, hotels are businesses and not charities. It might not be a popular view, but if I ran a hotel, I also wouldn't allow the homeless to stay there, even if the room had been paid for. Same if I ran a bar/pub/restaurant etc

Without knowing the individuals involved, I would think homeless = dirty, smelly, fleas, alcoholic, loud, troublesome etc, and say no. I wouldn't want to impose that on the other guests.

The woman who booked the rooms should have checked first if it was ok for them to stay there. Also, just for one night? They would have been back on the streets the next day in similar temperatures. I blame her for the situation and not the hotel receptionist, who was open about the situation, and wasn't in the slightest bit rude or patronising.

I know what it feels like and it's fucking devastating. And nobody should be dehumanized because of it.

I think the story said she found an alternative hotel that took in several homeless and some dogs as well, which is fine, if that hotel doesn't mind who stays there, but I don't think it should be expected that a hotel will automatically take in homeless people if they have other guests staying there. I know the hotel chain have said turning them away goes against their policy and will look into staff training etc, but that just seems damage limitation as the story is in the news

I wouldn't take migrants in either.

If I booked a holiday abroad and turned up and the hotel was full of homeless and asylum seekers, I wouldn't be too happy, I don't think many people would tbh.

Can you imagine the furore if they turned away a person because they were black? Or gay? Or trans? It's the hypocrisy that gets me.

Turning anyone away when it's - 6 degrees outside is horrible and heartless.

I remember watching a series on TV about one of the big posher hotels in Manchester. A chambermaid was talking about the state of some of the beds after some of the paying guests had left.

I doubt a couple of homeless men could have been worse than some of the so called respectable customers.

Yes, I agree.

And these two men were not asking for charity or freebies, the room had been paid for.

Weird story....how can this happen in this day and age?

A mother-of-10 who kept a vulnerable woman captive as a slave for 25 years has been jailed for 13 years.

Mandy Wixon, 56, was found guilty of false imprisonment and forcing the woman to clean her squalid home in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.

The victim, who has a learning disability and is now in her mid-40s, had washing-up liquid squirted down her throat, bleach splashed on her face and her head shaved against her will. She was also made to live off scraps.

Passing sentence at Gloucester Crown Court, Judge Ian Lawrie KC told Wixon: "You cruelly and persistently held captive this woman... The enduring persistent trauma of that slavery remains."

In a statement, the victim said: "For 25 years, I lived in fear, control and abuse. I was treated as though my life, my freedom and my voice did not matter."

Listening to this on the News today, I really could have cried.
If the woman who imprisoned this woman, who was very young at the time, is not insane, and she doesn't seem to be, how can one woman be so cruel and evil towards another.
And how did social services, neighbours, family of the evil cow, not investigate or speak out to someone years ago.

It beggars belief.

Proves you can never truly know what goes on behind closed doors, who you're standing next to at the bus stop or even who you're chatting to online.

The sentence is not enough imo, she should serve the length of time that that poor woman had served upon her. Thankfully, the young woman seems to be doing a lot better, although I doubt she'll ever be 100%.

I agree with both, she should serve at least the same amount of time she held this poor woman captive. She has stolen her youth, and tortured her for years.

It drives me mad how society as a whole is so uncaring towards others, and once more, social services will no doubt be 'learning lessons'....till the next time.

Well, like when Ian Huntley didn't recieve any sympathy when he faced prison justice, I doubt this old cow will either.

Why is it that the vast majority of women who mistreat innocents, like care home workers, nursery school teachers, abusive parents....always seem to be big fat heffers with a face that looks like they are chewing the cud?
