We (like you) have regionalized accents and I guess that word came from a southern accent. Most black folks can trace their roots back to the south..
I think a lot of folks that know better still use it when hanging with their tribe.
My accent gets stronger when I'm in my tribe, but I try to correctly say words, albeit with my accent..
