'Cable of God'? Some are saying that the ball hit an overhead camera cable in the build up to England's first goal - in which case play should have been stopped and restarted with a dropped ball - so no goal! FIFA are denying it happened, but aren't to be trusted, but many said it did happen, including the Norwegian GK, who can be seen pointing it out to the ref.

Strange decision to take off Whore-lund, he's either an all or nothing player though, and apart from scoring doesn't contribute that much to team play. Could see him being subbed if Norway were winning and wanted to play more conservatively, but not when they were chasing and needed a goal.

Then one of the match commentators said something along the lines of “Things are not looking good if Haaland’s limping”. So maybe he was injured?

That ball hit a cable, of course it's one of those things that may have been missed in real time..

And you're right about Haaland. You remove him to protect a lead and play a defensive game, not when you need a goal..

They are now saying he was subbed due to fatigue/exhaustion, which saves some face for him, as the real reason was probably because he was having such an awful game. Apart from not doing very much, it was his fault that the 2nd Norwegian goal was disallowed when he shoved the England player over before the corner was taken.

I didn't see him limping, but it is common for players to develop a limp when they have been subbed for playing poorly

Many people would have missed it unless they were closely following the ball's trajectory high up in the stadium. The Norwegian GK followed his own kick though, and he saw it, as did several others on the Norway bench.

It's not the kind of incident you would point out to a ref to check unless you were sure it had happened. They are saying the ball 'dropped out of the sky' - and it landed at the feet of an English player, which led to the goal.

I noticed him limping at the beginning of ET as well.

Haaland is not the type of player you sub off even if they are having a stinker. He can score out of the blue despite being anonymous for much of the game, and sometimes late on. He did that more than once in the Premier League last season.

Do you happen to know what the rules are around something like this? Goals are scored legitimately by deflections, such as deflections off another player, or off a goalpost, so what would make this deflection different?

England v Argentina should be a cracking game, given the long standing rivalry. I just hope things don't kick off between the fans because if there was one game that is likely to happen it will be that one.

I think it's a close call but England are marginal favourites. The Argentinian defence is worse than ours and we generally have better players, save for Messi and Alvarez. I think a combined starting XI for the game would have 6, possibly even 7 England players in it. That said the best Argentinian player will be the ref so they will probably win.
