Yeah I saw that. Apparently the Argentinian players thought it was disrespectful that Spain celebrated at the end of the game. They must have the memory of a goldfish and how they responded when they beat England. Honking team, honking fanbase.

I don't know how Enzo Fernandez thinks he is going to come back to Chelsea after his antics at the World Cup. He's going to get booed all the way out of Stamford Bridge.

Really enjoyed this thread and hopefully let's do another one for the Euros.

Real Madrid are sniffing around Enzo for £100m, but Chelsea want £120m, although he has supposed to have already agreed personal terms.

I'm not sure bringing him to Spain will go down that well tbh

Did you catch any of the images showing the Argentine team pointedly turning their backs, as Spain were on the podium lifting the trophy? 🙄

Social media is on fire with demands that thugs like Fernandez & Paredes be banned from international football for life.

I’ve said all along that I know little to nothing about football. But I sure can relate to these pundits - even I can understand those stats they show in the first couple of seconds!

I think the best one-liner I’ve heard to sum it all up is: “Football won in the end.”

As the thread winds down (😒), I’ll add a lighter note to end on.

Maggie’s voice alone always cracks me up 😂 Some of her stuff is comedy gold.

Never heard of her, but HuffPost has been posting a story every other day about Mira Lago face, and she definitely has it.

I don't mind the look, and it's better than chubby blue haired reporters at HuffPost.

I do think Don hung around too much, but I don't know the protocol for what the host country's leader is supposed to do.🤷

True. Her lips are very…improbable? 🤣 She really is great value, though.

I’m not aware of any hard and fast protocols per se at a World Cup awards ceremony. It’s more an established tradition that the dignitaries are simply there to hand out the medals/the Cup to the winning team. Then they respectfully exit the podium - like the King of Spain did - and leave the winning team in peace, to enjoy their iconic Cup-lifting moment and their celebrations.

Not the Orange asshole, though. HIS thinking behind lingering around like a foul smell, was because HE believes this World Cup was so successful solely because of HIM. And that the world should be applauding HIM too 🙄

It’s a kind of stolen valour thing, I guess…

I don't disagree with that, but Trump has owned sports teams and been very involved in sports as both a fan and investor.

That's sorta his thing.

I don't know how the typical Spanish player felt about him hanging around though. Like everyone else, I imagine it sorta depends.

I wonder if he plays golf with any of them in the coming months? 😉

LOL - watch Tagliafico faking an injury to try and distract the ref from giving Enzo Fernandez a red card. Messi then tries to get Cucurella sent off as well. That's how bad the Argentinian cheating was - I even feel sympathy with Cucurella lol

This is a generational aura loss for Argentina. Their reputation is in the mud and I don't see it improving any time soon.

This is one of the reasons soccer doesn't catch on here..

We have grown men who climb on bulls, get stomped on, have multiple broken bones, hop up and say they are fine..

If FIFA were to crack down on these "performances" and start tossing players, it would be a better game.

After a few games end 6 v 8, I bet the toughness of players would show a dramatic increase.

Women's soccer is probably as big here, at least the national team..

And you're right about the ladies.  They know how to "man up".

They can give birth and walk around right after. Male soccer players need a stretcher for a stubbed toe..

That dramatic ‘swoon’ cracked me up 😂 Seriously, don’t these dumbasses factor in that there are cameras everywhere?

I saw a clip of Cucurella approaching Messi. Yes, Cucurella put his hand to his mouth, but only for a split second. It‘s reported that Cucurella‘s gesture was simply to indicate that another Spanish player’s mouth was bleeding. He didn‘t completely cover his mouth to be snide and call Messi a tosser. Which of course, is exactly what Messi is.

Apparently, FIFA have rolled out a disciplinary investigation into this Argentine team. I‘ll be amazed if they end up facing any significant consequences, though.
