Seeing our country through fresh eyes is refreshing. Sometimes you need the opinion of outsiders. I'm glad they are having a great time.

If you want to hate America, watch the news..If you want to love it come visit..And for God's sake get at least 100 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.

Great match. happyhappy

Manchesters own Marcus Rashford got them out of a bit of a rut in the 2nd half, I think I am going to get into this tournament now.

The WC is warming up now - and it's just the first round of the group stages - wait until the knock out rounds begin!

nod Me too! Definitely.

Im so glad Marcus Rashford scored. I really like the guy, mostly because I recall reading about how much he does for charity and underprivileged youth groups.

Well done England! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

(and the footie themed British ads are great too 🤣)

😊 Hi Red…you’re one of the most genned up on footie around here. I only really get into the big tournaments, like the Euros & World Cup.

Which upcoming matches should I be on the lookout for?

I've visited and travelled extensively in the past, great country, although not quite the land of the 'free', as people seem to act and think the same as each other in line with societal rules, thinking or dressing or behaving differently is considered odd. I gave Texas a miss, and from what I'm seeing here that was no bad thing.

The knockout rounds are where it gets really exciting as it's sudden death, whereas in the group stage you get another chance if you draw or lose a game. We don't know the match ups yet, but there should be some good ones. Group winners get to play second or third place teams as a reward, so if a big team fails to top their group, they could be matched against another big team, who did win their group.

Otherwise you will get mainly David V Goliath match ups in the first k/o round. Having said that, some of the lower rated teams have played very well, ie Cape Verdi, so the gulf between top and bottom isn't as big as might have been expected.

Of the remaining group matches there is England V Ghana on Tuesday, but the one that interests me most is Scotland V Morocco on Friday night. I’ll be sticking a few quid on Morocco as I think they will outclass Scotland, but you never know what might happen - which all adds to the fun!

Paddy Power have some good ads. I liked the one with the blind football team - the ball has a bell in it, then a cat runs onto the pitch...

It received lots of complaints, but didn't get banned as it was deemed not to encourage animal cruelty or offensive to blind people.

As soon as the cat appeared, what would follow was always a given. I think then seeing the cat making it up that tree was probably the saving grace 😂

Thanks for the recommendations up there. I’m definitely gonna watch the Scotland match tomorrow. I’ll look out for the next Cape Verde match, and will probably be bitterly drawing comparisons with the (not so) mighty Italian national team 🤦🏻‍♀️

Good luck with your cheeky punt on Morocco!

Loved every minute of it! I knew it would be the most competitive fixture of the tournament and it didn't disappoint. Also seeing the England fans singing "Wonderwall" to the team at the end of the game with Harry and Jude getting choked up was a sight to behold.

I just wish we had a stronger team in our group. Croatia are a decent side but we won't really know how good we are until we are tested by one of the strongest teams. With the group stage you don't have the jeopardy of the knock-out stage and it would give us time to resolve our weaknesses. Our midfield and centre backs are not quite clicking yet but hopefully that will change.

I'm also ambivalent about the expanded size of the tournament. Seeing teams get battered 6 or 7 nil is jarring and frankly some of the Qatari play against Canada was dangerous watching the highlights.

My OH was watching that match last night. I saw the tackle that injured the players leg, it looked horrendous.

Apart from the Scotland match, I’ll definitely be watching the USA play the Aussies later too (BBC1 8pm).
There’s absolutely no love lost between them, so… scruffy
