France v Norway..the first half was brilliant, I lost interest half way through the second half.
I wonder why they didn't play Haaland, he may have turned it around.
Both teams had already qualified for the k/o stage, so could afford to rest key players in the final group match. Norway has a thinner squad so rested more than France did.
France had an added incentive in that their manager's mother died earlier in the week and he was back in France for her funeral - they wanted to wear black armbands but FIFA refused, so it might explain why they were so intense in what was in effect a meaningless match re forward progression in the tournament.
France now play Sweden, and Norway play the Ivory Coast - pretty similar levels of opponent, so nothing lost, nothing gained by tonight’s result, and Haaland got to put his feet up.
Thanks Red, I don't know the ins and outs, but I am getting interested in some of the games now.
Just as an aside....No 19 on the French side was gorgeous.
Neither do I, Syl 🤷🏻♀️ Apart from the odd Italian Serie A match, I usually only follow the big tournaments like the Euros and the World Cup.
Like you, I quickly get bored with matches that promise so much, then just kind of fizzle out into nothingness. I understand what Red explained, but without Haaland on the pitch, watching Norway lost its appeal for me. I bet the Norwegian fans at that stadium felt the same too.
(and now I’m gonna go Google the French #19 😂)…..
Theo Hernandez #19. Ah oui! Merci beaucoup!

He is lovely...he even looked good when he fouled someone.

😂 We may be getting on a bit in years, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate a lovely dopamine boost every once in a while! 😎😎
You do realise these kinds of posts will probably have Red and the other guys rolling their eyes at ‘wimmin’ derailing a footie thread, don’t you? 🤣
… anyways…….🤞🏻 Come on Ing-er-land!! 🏴

Also, after seeing numerous clips of visitors trying ranch dressing in the US for the first time I popped out to Waitrose to get a bottle. I think I have had it before when I was in the States but it doesn't stick out in my mind.
I will report back with my findings when I try it...
I've seen a bunch of those. I had no idea that Ranch wasn't a thing in Europe.
Tried the ranch dressing (it was the Paul Newman one so no idea how close to the actual American version it is) and it was quiet nice. I've definitely had it before but would choose other dressings / sauces if I was eating out or at home which is probably why I don't remember it.
You can get ranch over here but it isn't really prevalent or popular. That's one of the odd things about the short videos I have seen as it is people from the UK commenting about things they are having in the US which you can also get in the UK (like Taco Bell, Popeyes, Chipotle etc.) I wouldn't mind trying things like In and Out burger or Chick-fil-a but the ones that really interest me are the things which are hard to get in the UK or you just cannot get like Texas BBQ, peach cobbler, banana pudding, clam chowder, biscuits & gravy. All look delicious. I saw an interview with a English guy who was drinking Shiner Block(?) and trying American craft beers would definitely be my thing.

Think Norway's route now is the Ivory Coast and Brazil (who they have a good record against.) I guess they will take fresh legs against the Ivory Coast rather the regional derby against Sweden with tired legs and then Germany.
Getting battered though can't be good psychologically even if it is your B team and shows other teams your squad may lack depth to deal with injuries, kill off a game with subs etc.

We may be getting on a bit Vam, but the mind doesn't age.....ask Maddog.
Someone down the pub brought up the idea of an alterative women's league - the main requirement for being selected was based on how pretty they were. Full makeup and long hair. and skirts instead of shorts.

I think some sports are already based on that.
I have never seen an ugly, overweight beach volleyball player....if you dont look good in a thong or high cut briefs, I doubt you get on the team.
