So far reports are 460 dead and 1400 missing, and it seems to be rising all the time.

Hard to find the words to describe what we saw - as others have said, it looked AI-generated or straight out of an apocalyptic disaster movie.

My only thoughts as I watched those raging waters, was to hope that those who perished had a mercifully instantaneous death.

Those kind of waters slam you so hard into things that you're likely unconscious before you drown.

The video where the workers were running up the hill, being encouraged by co-workers who were higher up, and knowing they wouldn't all make it, was so frightening.
They must have heard the roar of the waters all around them as they ran, but couldn't look back.
It really was the stuff of nightmares.

The ones who were spared and the families of those who died will never get over this.
The latest death toll is 919 and 4,793 missing.

I wonder if or when any of those 4700 missing people will ever be located - dead or alive.

They’ve recovered around 600 bodies so far. But identifying all those bodies is proving to be an enormous challenge, due to a chronic shortage of forensic facilities in which to conduct DNA testing.

Is it an exaggeration on my part to view this disaster as an extinction level cataclysmic event?

It seems every week there is some tragedy or other in the world.
This one though is one of the worst in recent history, not only in numbers dead and missing, but the suddenness of it and the way it ate those people up within seconds.

Reminds me of the Tsunami about 10 years ago in that there was little to no warning.

We are no stranger to the weather trying to kill us, but we've gotten pretty good at warning people before it hits..

I bet this could have been averted with all the technology we have nowadays. Maybe Nepal is a poor country with not enough to barter with for bigger countries like China to invest in.

Whatever, global warning, like Vam mentioned, and the foreseeing heatwaves, droughts and floods we are all predicted to have, are a serious threat to future generations.

Yes, there is little to no cooperation between them and China..

I think they are poor in the sense that India is poor..There is wealth and a middle class, but a great deal of abject poverty.

There are a lot of them in N Texas. They tend to run little shops similar to what you used to call Paki shops

I have just been watching a programme about this tragedy. It was mentioned that this country contributes very little to global warming, yet it's the one that has suffered so much because of it.

Since the invasion of migrants into Ceuta from Morocco, sexual assaults are now happening on a near daily basis, including 9 against children.

Locals say they no longer feel safe and there have been violent clashes between them and the migrants.
